Nice computer work. Why not just put two flats on the black/Delrin part for a simple finger hold?

I guess I have been lucky. I'm able to get mine off using only fingers.

Yes there are many options, another is to flute the delrin piece lenght wise in between the holes to make it like a screw driver handle and forget the holder piece. I just happened to have the piece of alum that happened to fit the piece of plastic I had so I went with it. The Delrin pieces I had were too small to use without some kind of holder, they are only 1" long - easy to STILL knock your knuckles on those rim bolts.

I installed the hub caps finger tight but when I weathered them with the paint wash to simulate grease and grime I think that "glued" them in place. Some were really stuck and took a lot of reefin even with the tool.

I have the same problem---not on Panther but on Kingtiger. Courtesy Derrik's suggestion, I find the possible solution here for my KT. Thank you all for the info.

Yes I think if you use pins instead of the holes in a similar tool per Dereks suggestion it should help the hub cap to break free. I never realized paint could be such a good glue.

Took an idea from Dale and made some mesh screens for my Panther. Thanks Dale for the idea and inspiration. The ring is easily machined. Glueing the mesh in with epoxy is so much easier than trying to solder it! Anyway they came out nice. You can mount them machined side up or glued side up if you prefer the rougher texture (to simulate welding). I will add a PDF drawing to my gallery.

Thanks for the info and photos on how you did your grills.The main problem I was having on my KT was with the mesh covering the grills are made of steel and does not manipulate or solder very easily.All ok now apart from trying to get my fingers unstuck from the super glue!I still have not made the large grills that covers both square grills under the turret.With the experience of the smaller grills I have high hopes these should turn out ok.

Hi fellas.

I did the same thing regarding the Panther hub caps although mine is not delrin as I had none to hand so mine is aluminium with a slot milled in the rear so you can use a screwdriver to fit and remove them, I also added a few drops of light oil to the threads to help them along,you can see this in part 2 of the Panther blog.
I have also seen this this same thing happen on the Tiger 1 on a few models including my first one, the addition of a simple lock washer on the cap head stops it altogether.
