Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
Well argued Stephen,
After seeing the photos of the drawings, Kent's photo and some photos I have been sent as well as couple from my own collection. I think I can safely say there is an argument to say it would protrude out to at least halfway down the flash guard.
The blown turret of 833. A discussion could be had that the mg had been forced forward by the blast when the engineers blew the two tigers up, it is possible.
Looking at the other photos I think this looks about right. I will leave myself the option to be able to alter it if someone can produce evidence that its wrong. a removable spacer should do.
Thanks for the feedback, its always great to have different opinions.
Paul.

Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
As far as I can see there are no differences between the early or late Tiger I´s as regarding to how far the MG protrudes. Here´s an early version with a small protective cap on the muzzle;
and on the late version (possibly also with the protected cover);
Both photos correspond well with the original drawings.

Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
Hi Per,
Thanks, that 2:nd photo ends the discussion.
Now we all know how far out of the mantle we shall have our Tiger 1 turret MG.
My point was always look for period photos and never trust drawings unless they are genuine WW2 ones.
Kind regards
Kent

Hi All,
Just a few more updates. I have fitted the drivers view port, and all the optics are clear and working. I fell lucky when some workmen came to work on a fiends carp pond and installed a 15mm thick perspex window, so I went into scrounge mode

Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
I have also finished the cupola, I have fitted perspex prisms to all the slots, unfortunately I cannot get a good photo as it is a little tight in there, so I am waiting for my mini camera to come back so I can take some photos. the shoulder cushions are all leather. now I can concentrate on making the water slide decals.

Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
these early cupolas are a difficult part to enhance more so than the kingtiger etc, very noticeable on top of the model as well, but you've achieved it there paul, a lot of delicate work, thanks for the post, regards simon.

Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
Going well Paul, I got some polycarbonate in various sizes. No 15 mm yet though. Waiting for a small sheet to become available. The supplier is local to me. How are you cutting the Perspex. The supplier might be able to supply some cut for me. I have fitted 12mm blocks for now. You sent me a mail recently about decals. Can you send again as I lost original. I will see if I have what you need.

Re: Tiger 1321 rebuild
Thanks John, if you are struggling for the 15 mm let me know, the guys I got mine off cut me 3 strips and I bought a bit off them in case I wanted to do more. I don't think I will need all of it, and I am sure we can work something out. They told me to cut it with a tile cutting saw with a wet blade. as you can see by the photos in my thread it more like 14mm, but it has fit all the prism blocks. Ill drop you a email later.

Hi All,
Started to fit the decals I made, thanks to the encouragement of Mr White
Could I add them to Phil's real or fake?

Yup! Do some of your artistic photography and editing and load away Paul. Lovely work mate. You might need to add a crew light to that interior for effect ,
