wire connections

Hi Mick
I had a receiver cable with 2 wires transposed but I used my spare off
the blank fire connection.
The reason I mention this is,if you want to have a quick check of your
cables the pictures in the manual will give you a guide to the colours
and the orientation in the different plugs.
Especialy check the colours in the little white 4 cable plug which has the
limit wires at the other end of the loom to the auxiliary module and
obviously re check the list that Mark posted,I know you have probably
done that several times already.
Keep plugging away you will find it soon.
Cheers
Phil

Hello Phil, thank you for your help, John suggested the problem may be in the wiring...there's alot of it. I made further checks this morning, unsuccessfully.
So I spoke to Mark on the telephone...as a result, I parcelled the module/sub loom/motor for Mark to cast a professional eye over it. That single black wire may be the problem. It's good to know we have an excellent backup system in Mark and Gill.

I am aware that over my many years model building it's all to easy to miss the blindingly obvious. I feel more comfortable that the issue is being checked thoroughly. I am rather proud of the Comet build and I have had many enjoyable hours, with more to come.

Thanks again Phil, and John, will keep you posted.....Mick

Hello Phil and John, Mark has sorted out my gun elevation problem, if I understand Gill correctly, it was a fault in the wiring to the motor. I would not have been able to detect this, so thanks go to Mark.
Parts now on there way back to me, all being well I will be able to fit the drive motors this weekend, that's if the football does not get in the way.
I whiled away the hours today by refitting cupola hatch fasteners, ( I clumsily broke both of these off recently ), Dave from Armorpax very kindly supplied new fasteners. The help and advice in the AFV society is second to none.
Phil, I hope to order my decals soon...I can't find your post on this subject, explaining how you obtained your set...can you tell me where that post is?....I have tried the search option.....Mick.

Hi Mick
Glad your bits are on the way back to you.

Dont forget to do your bench test again and the second stage of the
testing where you put your amplifier module in the circuit, because some of
the cables get changed round a bit in this stage, for those who dont have
the sound module is the first stage, then your sounds are added in the
second stage of it.
This is where your channel 5 and three position switch will come into use.
The manual is very clear though, just like the first stage.
You will love it when it all comes allive :)
You want to make sure the whole lot works before installing into the
basement of your Comet

Re decals
Its in 2 places under the Comet section.
My posting called "Decals"
and also in my own Comet postings
You will find it easier in the Decal posting.
I think I put his email address webb site and phone number there, also
I have the attatchments of the bull and numbers photo's that I sent to him
if you need them,I can email them to you.
Infact one of the bull photo's doesnt have that little black mark at the front
that looks like a third front leg,it was probably a mark on the Tank when
the orriginal photo was took.
Any problems give us a shout
Cheers

Hello Phil, UPS delivered my parts this morning, excellent postal service. Will do as you advise, and connect all modules as per the very clear instructions.
It is useful to understand how these modules link together, I have absolutely no idea what goes on inside these units, I can however, understand how the various modules when linked together, provide the options, drive/sound/ smoke, etc,.
So, I will start from scratch, the more I use and play with the parts the better the understanding.
I will also label the wiring as I make progress, this should help when I fit these modules inside the Comet.

Thanks for the info on the decals, I have the telephone number for the chap who made your set, and thank you for the offer over your decals.....I will speak to the company first as I rather like the type showing a Comet called 'Iron Duke', I'm not sure how to draw up a replica. I have copied some I found on the internet, onto my computer, I will print them off first, when I have the correct scale size. I also need to check that whatever decal I use, they match an actual Comet, in service, at the end of World War Two. So, lots to do, and very interesting......Mick

Great News Mick
Excelent after sales service like you say.

There will only be a few wires to disconnect to seperate them after.
Most are identifiable from the pictures but the black ones for the radio
connections I found it easier to mark some how and again on to each unit
where they came from.
Anything to make life a bit easier.

Re Decals
I did my name and Tank number with seperate leters and numbers.
But your Idea sounds much easier I never thoght of that, but He will do that
for you all in one decal for each name and number.
Have Fun
Cheers

Hello Phil, and all builders of Comets....now, I have reconnected my modules after Mark waved his magic wand over them. All the options are working as per the instructions, LH drive, RH drive, turret rotation, gun elevation, :D .

So with a clear mind, and one eye on the football, I began rearranging the speed control to receiver leads, to connect with the Amplifier module, to programme the sounds.
Carefully labeling all leads as I go.....don't want to get into a mess again.

You know what is coming next.....remove amp cover, identify switch....switch on TX, switch on tank/RX.....press switch....nothing.
Re-checked, all cables, what goes where etc,.
As I replace the final lead, I think someone is watching over me, the lead from the amp to the receiver is incorrect....bingo, the receiver end has a transposed wire, blue/green/red. Should be blue/red/green.

Refitted wires....switch on....click,click,click. press switch.....what a beautiful sound, engine, turret, gun, there must be a little man in there. Proportional on drive....lovely

Okay, not quite there, moving the sticks I have proportional drive sounds on the right/left stick, forward/reverse.

Phil, I do not have the turret turn sound or gun elevation sound, when I move the sticks to left and right. I have moved the three position switch on the TX in accordance with the instructions to programme in these sounds....no joy.

Any advice please......I am using the three position switch on top of the Futaba TX marked channel E which should be channel 5

I can't get over the sound of the Comet engine, however I need the other sounds to make my day.....Mick

Sounds

Well Done Mick.
You have done it :D
The Sounds you get would have all played through before the double click at the end.
As far as I am aware they havent brought ot any sounds for the turret
turn and elavation, you have the sounds of the motor when these are running.
Go through your sounds with your three position switch
1 back from centre then forward is engine stopping
2 back is engine rev up and backfire
3 back is engine revving faster
4 back Main Gun
5 back is machine gun
ETC ETC
More machine gun sounds some different,I meant to ask the other guy's
which machine gun sound is which, but never got round to it.
Different voices etc
Goes up to about 10 or 12 some are repeated.
If you have all these on your 3 position switch you are there
Well done
Cheers

Hello Phil....takes an awfully long while before these instructions sink in.....finally understood what you mean....I keep firing the main gun....it's awsome.

I went all through the sounds....number 11 sounds like a turret turn, or it could have been 12....I am overjoyed...fired the main gun again to celebrate.

I had been sitting there moving the three position switch, back, thinking the sound would just happen....never mind, should have known better.

I will sleep soundly ( no pun intended ) tonight. My cup is full, and I am well pleased.

Thank you again Phil, will start fitting the options inside the Comet next week.

Thanks go to John as well who spotted the receiver wiring problem ..... Mick

Good for you Mick
Now that you mentioned it I do remember that sound up the far end of the
selections.
If you forget the movements for the 3 position switch a quick reminder
is on the last page no 10 in amplifier Module operation
There is room there to list out the sounds aswell, but they will soon stick
in your head.
Some Guys fit a 12 position rotary switch to their radio's,Dennis sent me
the details,I have kept it for the future if I want to change.
Cheers

Hello Phil, so pleased my 'sounds'are finally organized. 11/12 sound like turret turn, and there is one sounding like gun elevation.

Anyway, I just fire my main gun, caught a glimpse of a Tiger retreating at great speed

The Option fit starts next week....have you secured some of your modules with double sided tape. Lots to look forward to, you get a lift as each section builds....Mick.

Hi Mick,

I don't know whether you looked at the photos of my options install but if you need any help or advice then get in touch. I prefer to mount my modules fairly secure. The speed controller is bolted throught the hull base. The speakers are resting in the styro packing and also using the mounting screw (with the plastic taken off) are fixed the sheet of mdf. The amplifier is bolted to the mdf. The aux module is velcro'd to the top of the battery. The receiver is velcro'd and tie wrapped to the mdf. I used a piece of wood either side of the batts to pack them out these peices are fixed down with a bolt through the hull base and I have put an aluminium strip tying down each batt to the wood. Be careful where you position things particularly at the front end and keep trying the front deck to make sure you have got clearance for the turret turn motor. Also be aware of the cable that will come down from inside the turret in the middle. You will have to extend the receiver power cable and also the power cables from the psu to the speed controller. the Best of luck.

Dennis.

Hello Phil and Dennis, thank you for your timely advice, I will keep all of this in mind as I progress.....a 'dry' fit is the first move.

There looks to be plenty of room at first glance....however the hull will soon fill up. I have been watching both of your builds with great interest....very neat. If there is one thing I am good at, it's neat and tidy.
I have seen some really splendid 'internals' on this Forum.... all adds to the 'look' of the tanks...as well as being easier to track faults, should they occur. I have always been of the opinion that what is underneath is just as important as the finish.

I have been gathering various packing materials ready to use in the hull......so with a fair wind and everything crossed we will commence.

Thanks again Phil and Dennis.

I think I will just fire the main gun again....for luck
