Someone told me this Panther model has to have zimmerit. Is that a fact?!

The Panther G kit is based on the July 1944 batch this would have had zimmerit which was only suspended in September 1944. MAN Baimler Benz and MNH all used different patterned zimmerit, if you are building a Normandy based Panther then only MAN and Daimler Benz would be appropriate MNH Ausf G only entered service after Normandy.

Brian, I suspect you are going to become the zimmerit expert at this rate.

The Armortek Panther is based on Panther 332 identified by Kent Wiik.

Panther 332 Fahrgestell number 120790, was built by the MAN factory at the end of July 1944.
It served in the 112th Panzer Brigade and participated in the Battle of Dompaire in September 1944.
After the battle, two Panthers were captured by the 2éme Division Blindée.
These Panther tanks were both placed into French army service and after the war one of them
was donated to the city of Paris. This Panther was given a place together with another Panther
at the Army Museum Les Invalides. In the 70 it was taken to the Museum in Saumur where it was on
a short display, then it was stored until 2009 and restored.

Before restoration most of the zimmerit had fallen away though I suspect that traces would have survived especially under the sponsons as this area tends to be a little more protected from the weather. After restoration the French replaced the zimmerit with Daimler-Benz pattern zimmerit as opposed to the correct MAN pattern

Yes she still had some MAN pattern zimmerit left on the hull behind the wheels.
Vertical rimes in squares as seen in the pics below.
But in my eyes she got the MAN pattern zimmerit at the restoration.

Glad you responded Kent, I didn't see the MAN pattern the tile effect is more prominent but as you say it has the correct pattern. Would you happen to have more war time pictures of this Panther?

Did you ever complete your own Panther G? and will you make a comeback to the forum, I need inspiration.

I’ll be planning to zimmerit!

Not the most exciting thing but it took a couple hours to get here. Tapped all the suspension arms and test fit axles and torsion bars. Everything looks good except two grub screw holes stripped. I’ll have to drill out the other side and tap it or else I’m in the market for two new suspension arms!
