Fitted a Mike Stannard shovel today - decided to fit the head holder as illustrated in Achtung panzer 6 also as fitted to the Jagdtiger in Kabinka.

Hi Brian,
No progress to report, too cold in the garage and I've had a lingering cough for a few weeks that I'm trying to shake off.

Cheers

I hope you feel better. I am getting a cold too. Maybe you can make that Jagdtiger an indoor cat lol.

Hi David (and any advice from all JT builders is welcome too),

How many pairs of track are used in your JT? The number quoted in the Assembly Manual is 48 for newly built JT, and maybe less after running.

Yet in my half-built JT , 48 pairs of (right) track is too slack , even after adjusting of the Tension Arm to it's forward (ie, to maximum tighten the track) position.
The right Tension Arm in most forward (ie, to tighten the right track) position.

The right 48 pairs track still too slack.

On the other hand , 47 pairs of (left) track is too tight , after adjusting of the Tension Arm to it's backward (ie, to maximum loosen the track) position.
The left Tension Arm in most backward (ie, to loosen the left track) position.

Have I done anything in-appropriately? or is there something I miss?

Ler Chang

The manual recommends an amount of track that is for static display not RC. You need the tracks to be tight for RC so they don’t climb over the sprocket. Why do you think the 47 sets is too tight. Honestly I believe that looks perfect for RC.

The third variable to adjust tension beside track length and idler tension, is torsion bar ride height. Yours look good though.

Sorry, but I would not be pleased to have the tracks as ugly tight as shown above. This may do it for a 1/16 plastic model but not for a model in 1/6 scale. My models are used also in rough grounds, and they nevertheless have a track tension like the real ones.

I know I had posted this resolve for the lack of adjustability on the King tiger idler-figured it would be the same on the JT too. As pictured I had a new arm machined with more swing to it. With removing a track link set you have approximately 2" which is too much and then the tracks are way to tight and can cause damage to the drive. The custom machined idler unit gives the ability to bridge that 2" gap and worked perfect on my KT.
