I've spent the last week looking at various radios and although the Flysky Paladin looked very good but I was struggling to find any UK dealers for Flysky and virtually no for sale in the UK from any of the RC vendors. The EV is brand new and does not seem to be for sale anywhere yet.

So, I decided to get an FRsky Horus X10s Express and managed to pick one up almost half price off ebay today.
It is installed with the latest version of Ethos so will give that a try before looking into OpenTX.
The main thing is to get the Panther up and running on the new radio first and see how i get on.

Cheers
Tim

HI,
I am very curious about the FLYSKY PL18EV,
I would like to know if there is at least a European distributor of Flysky radios?
in Italy there is no official distributor, in case of problems, do you have to send it to china?
regards
Marco

Good luck Tim, it's a cracking radio. The RC Video Reviews YouTube channel has got some really good guides to OpenTX, if (when?) you migrate to it. He uses a Radiomaster radio but it's the same screen as the Horus. Joshua Bardwell does a good video on flashing OpenTX on the Horus.

There's a post or two on setting up OpenTx on the Taranis on my Cent thread. I did set up ETHOS but didn't record it, sorry.

Hi Marco, lack of UK/Europe distributors was one of the big Flysky failings for me.
I wish them luck with the EV though.

Thanks Stephen, I am pretty exited tbh and after an 8 channel restriction for so long with my Spektrum, I am now wanting to get everything controlled from the TX.
I think i would still like to get a Benedini encoder installed if that is possible on the Horus.
Having said that, I am open to other (better) suggestions.

I see that in Ethos you can set various flying model types and then there is "OTHER".
Have you tried that to see whether it is more suitable for tanks?

Cheers
Tim

Tim, sorry, I didn't stay with ETHOS long enough to find out. My Horus X10 is for aircraft so I moved to OpenTX pretty quickly. For my tanks, I'm using the Taranis X9D + with OpenTX V2.3. It certainly opens up a lot of options not available with other operating systems.

As for Benedini sound, it's a great bit of kit, especially the TBS Mini V2, with increased memory. I ran my own sounds on the Benedini V1, courtesy of Thomas who uploaded my sound files to his proprietary format so I could upload them to the card. With the Mini V 1.0, I was limited to a total of 90 secs of sounds, which is nothing.

I'm in the process of installing a Beier sound card and will post in due course but as a headline, it's capable of a lot more but it's not exactly intuitive. I would say that it's not worth doing unless you've got a lot of original sounds, as I have for my Cent and Chieftain. That said, Beier do offer some off the shelf sounds and the best of the lot is..... the Panther G. I've used the configuration of the Beier Panther G package as a good starting point but my setup now bears little resemblance to the original. That's the great thing about Beier - if you're prepared to put in a lot of effort and head scratching, it has a lot to offer, not least that the amount of sounds you can use is limited only by the SD card. I'm using 15 files for the engine sounds and have another 20 additional sounds which I can select and five which play randomly.

I'm in NZ. Definitely no dealer here. I got my PL18 off AliExpress and have run it for around 2-years on drones and trucks without issue. I've just ordered the PL18EV for the Sherman. The functionality for price is great and well worth any risk I think for the EV version having tracked vehicle mode. Although the standard PL18 has it also in a limited format. They're quality bits of kit so I can't really see them going wrong if they're looked after.

Thanks Glen,
for the answer, my perplexity is on the ease of use, I have been using Spektrum radios for years, I have never had any problems and for me they are very simple and intuitive to use, I would not want to buy a radio that is too complicated for me
