That's the most realistic recoil and recuperation I've seen to date Paul.
Indeed, it does look pretty good to me too.

After playing lots with recoil and servo's I have finally given up and gone with CO2. I couldnt get the right return movement with the heavy barrel.
That looks fantastic.
I will try to copy you, Sorry to say. :D
Please put up some more info about how you did it.

Robert

Paul, that's a really neat and effective solution. Looks perfect. Your engineering geometry might also allow a tube to be introduced via the top of the barrel to allow a barrel smoker and laser .... Now I'm thinking. The trouble with Armortek models is that they're never finished. f

Stephen,

The next step is to take the exhaused gas from the control valve and use it to blow smoke through the barrel at the same time.
Once I gather a parts list properly I will post a component list for others to follow

Brilliant concept Paul, you're on a roll. It's one of those "why didn't I think of that moments" for some of us. I experimented with pneumatics with my Pz III but selected the wrong system (using a US model aircraft retracts setup). It was OK for such a small gun and the tank was re-chargeable with a hand pump. I simply didn't realise you could get C02 containers in such a large size. I suppose I was thinking soda syphons.

My barrel smoke generator works really well as far as the smoke is concerned. The realism issue is the slow build up of pressure using fans. Now with the discharge to air of the cylinder, that would fix the issue.

Great challenge to solve. You're more than half way there and with one of the biggest mass of barrel in the Armortek armoury.

Infinite thanks for conducting this research for us! :D
I was thinking similarly, but am not even close to an experiment.

I needed to reduce the pressure going to the e-cigarette so in the test shown I used a t piece to vent some excess air off.
I will get a throttle valve on the t and adjust until I get it right, too much pressure just blows the vape fluid right out the end with very little smoke.

Paul, it gets better and better. Congratulations. I did try an e-cigarette but in the end decided it couldn't produce the volume of smoke I wanted. I've gone for a vape box "mod" which is very controllable and produces huge amounts of smoke on demand. I've modified the mouthpiece to allow air to be blown into the air intakes, so that it exits via the mouthpiece, which is then connected to a tube running down the barrel. Combine that with your CO2 solution and stand back.....

Stephen,

My idea should product more smoke when I can control the air pressure through the e-cigarette. Im awaiting more parts to arrive.
Im also putting the e-cigarette at the end of the barrel so it should get a more direct effect. We will see.

BTW: I will be at Tankfest on the Sunday with this.

I love the effects! :D
If I were you, I would open the return valve earlier, so that the barrel slows down and reverses in one continuous motion, without hitting any mechanical stop. I think the speed of the recoil is perfect. Not prototypical, but then nobody would see what's happening. This is just right. :D

I agree the effect is great.
Using Paul's design I have tried to squeeze something similar into a Tiger 1 turret. Not sure it will fit as I also need to find space for...
12v LiFePO battery
RC receiver
solenoid valve and controller
linear actuator controller
gas bottle.....
not mention smoke and LEDs for gun and co-axial MG :?

Hi Paul,
You know it may just work! I cannot use the standard CO2 welding gas canisters but could fit a 9oz cylinder used for paintball... :)
