Peter, you might like to re-read my comment about Futaba. I was careful to apply it only to their approach to failsafe ("are wanting in that respect"). It is undoubtedly true that the Futaba failsafe fails to meet our requirements in a way which is unique to them, because it is limited to one channel. The comment was not intended to be applied to their systems overall.
The overall effectiveness of competing radio systems is for another post but I will observe that having been loyal to Futaba for almost as long as you, I now use FrSky radios with OpenTx for my aeroplanes, helicopter and parameter and will be converting my Centurion to use the Taranis vice Spektrum.

Respectfully, I think everyone's right. We all invested lots of money in the past and hope the equipment we brought is up to the job, sophisticated equipment we then stuff in a thick metal box. I'm sure most, if not all have had momentary R/C glitches, switched RX on before TX and thanked the RC gods nothing happened.
I pretty much know the Futarba 10C with the 10 channel Fasst RX has a very little or no chance of not working properly with the red boxes.
So I've delved into the Taranis range, read and watched a few articles, and brought a late X9D+ with a clunky on off button, (Don't like soft touch, always on what ever the manufacturer says). A couple of X8R receivers hooked together gives 16 channels which gives plenty of scope. I'm sure it has lots of features, 360 flips should be no problem and more fail safes than you can point a stick at.
I not too bothered about it's software, firmware as long as it keeps my underwear clean. If it doesn't I'll have a quiet gripe on the forum.
I just want it to do the job reliably.

Well the Fr Sky X9D "second hand never used" has arrived, and nice it is. I wasn't impressed with the standard "memo" instructions. A complete hard copy is always nice to have and ponder over.
Some instructions refer to slightly different named parameters on the TX box which can be a bit confusing, the phd in bewilderment will come in handy.
As you can see not a lot has changed in 10 years or so physically, I'm sure it's got a relatively new hip hop frequency program, flip flops and plenty of fail safes, You could even connect up one to raise a flag on the model to show its failed.
It did'nt cost a lot on the scale of things, a new one would cost half of what the Futaba cost 10 years ago, it's far more sophisticated, add another £30.00 8 channel receiver and you can have 16 channels of bliss
Just hope it works with the red boxes.
