Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Stephen,
Thanks for the kind remarks. I am enjoying these builds. After building 1/8th scale steam locomotives all my life , it is nice to have something that takes months not years to complete.
I acquired a paint spray booth so I can paint indoors year round. What a pleasure to use. Here are a few pictures of my progress so far. This is a massive model. Spray booth vented under the garage door

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Tom,
The Famo looks awesome. I really like your paint color. For those of use non-automotive types how do you order the paint? I'd like to get some but there are so many choices, so many catalyist, etc. Do you go through a distributor?
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Bob,
I get my paints from Industrial Finishes in my area. Any automotive paint distributor for PPG will have the paint. I use a product call PPG Essential. That name defines all the products needed to mix the paint properly. The standard mix is 6 parts paint to one part hardener and one part activator. I add 6 parts flattener to get a nice flat finish. PPG has a color wheel and I found a color that I liked. I went to my local farm store and bought big horse syringes used to deliver worming paste to horses and uses them to draw the paint in the correct ratios.
Let me know when there is a tank fest in the NW. I would like to bring the panzer and FAMO to show.

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Tom,
Thanks for info on paint.
The big tank fest is Memorial Day at Flying Heritage at Paine Field, Everett, WA. Its a road trip for you for sure, but is a great event. Lots of 1:1 tanks, and 1/16 tank battle and 1/6 displays. The airplane and tank collection at the museum is fantastic if you have not seen it. Would be great to see you and your models there. The 1/6 scale folks are growing. I brought 3 last year and had fun running them - lots of interest from the crowd.
Arlington air show is another fun one in July. Lots of 1:1 displays of trucks, tanks, jeeps with air show and model tanks running area.
Best regards,
Bob

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Here are the latest progress pictures.
I have installed all the electronics in the engine bay.
I installed the on/off switches for the master cut off and smoke unit in the tool box in the cab. The charging plug is in the other tool box.
I installed a second 3" speaker inside the spare tire. The supplied 4" speaker will go in the engine bay.
A couple shots of the crew compartment. Getting the seats modified and ready to paint. I have not done any weathering yet so the everything looks rather plain.-

Hello Tom,
Very impressive to see you've installed almost every module in the engine bay , which just inspire me of doing the same thing is a good idea.
Like to see more photos of the position of the two 12 Volt batteries. Keep up good works.

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Hi Lerh,
Here are some pictures of the latest work. Installing all this body work is a real struggle. Lots of holes to line up. Just getting to some of the nuts and bolts takes some thought. I ended up soldering all the nuts to the sheet metal brackets for both the front and rear compartments and the compartments under the seats. About 30 nuts! But, now installing everything is much easier because you do not need to reach under the model to install the nuts.

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Hi Tom,
Again, two batteries are nicely sit into two tool boxes.
Before doing the similar installation, may I ask few questions on your photos :
(1) In photo 1, there are two Motor Control Modules (A and B). Are they working as the speed controller?
(2) What is the red Module with a black knob sit horizontally at the front? Is it the Audio Module?
(3) A receiver was found on the top of (2). What are the other square one and black one beside it?
(4) Is this just a shadow in photo 2?
Best regards,
Lerh Chang

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Hi Lerh,
I assume you do not yet have the option paks as all this is explained in the manual.
Motion control A controls the traction motors for forward, reverse and turning.
Motion control B controls the winch.
The box with the volume knob is the audio module.
The units next to the receiver are part of the smoke unit on/off system.
Yes there is a strange shadow in the photo of the batteries.
Have fun with your build.
Tom

Re: Tom's FAMO Build
Started weathering the FAMO this week. Long and labor intensive process. Using MIG washes and filters then Bragdon Ent. weathering powders. What you see is four days work.
Thank God for Armortek kits during these covid times. I am busy every day. I now realize how anti social I am. Despite a pandemic my life hasn't changed much.
