GILL WATKINS

Although these last few days have been so hard to bear for those closest to Gill, it's the community that she and Mark built and Monique and Kian have enhanced, which will be Gill's truly lasting legacy. Few people can claim they've not only built a successful business but touched people's lives across the world and built a global community of interest which has brought people across four continents together with a shared passion.

I've worked with some of the best in global corporations and have rarely if ever seen anyone to match Gill's commercial acumen. We part with our hard won cash willingly, knowing the strength of the customer service and care which Gill brought to Armortek. It's testimony to the strength of those relationships that buying one model is never enough.

Gill, you understood each of us better than we understood ourselves. Whatever you may have thought privately about each individual, to us all you were unfailingly cheerful, engaging, interested, caring and committed. You never failed to treat a dumb question with respect, to pander to every mad whim and no request was too trivial to deal with. Business isn't built without hard graft and you gave that in more than full measure. The packing, the emails, the telephone calls, the ice cream treats at TankFest, the quiet but steely way in which you organised us all are testimony to the dedication you gave to Armortek.

And behind the public persona was a devastating wit which cut through bluster, pretence and self-interest. Always the professional on the outside, behind that smiling face was stiletto designed to prick any bubble which crossed her.

Gill radiated good cheer, even when the going was tough but was never happier than talking about her beloved dogs.

When we were discussing the sale of the business, it seemed as though you were looking at a talented but demanding child and saying, as a parent, you've had the best years of my life and now it's time you got on without us. You wanted your life back.

Then, just when you and Mark could look forward to a new life on your terms, cruel fate intervened.

Gill, I count myself hugely fortunate to have known you as a friend.

Mark, Daniel, Sara you have a wide community of support around you, not just now but long into the future. We're there when you need us.

Gill's legacy is here, vibrant, sad for the moment but full of plans for the future.

I second every thing that Stephen has said. I bought my first Armortek kit (Panzer 111) back in 2008 and have met Gill on many occasions since then, always with a big hug. I have many happy memories of Gill, she will be sorely missed. The thoughts of myself, Chris my wife and all of the Members of the Southern Armour Group go to Mark, Daniel and Sara at this sad time.
