I’d only add to what Pierce said that second only to files would be scrapers. Any toolmaker worth his salt would say that you can only fettle metal with a file and a scraper. I only appreciated that free investing in machine tools, when a former Birmingham toolmaker asked where my scalers were. He then proceeded to insist I took one of his sets and told me how to use them. I put something about them on the Forum a while ago.
