Hi All,

Made the 2 types of tool end brackets, there will be a number of each type in the final kit. Made the stop for the Breech Lever and the redundant firing lever guide from the early firing mechanism that is present on all the ones I have looked at.

I am working on a detailing plate to sort out the welded trail issue and I think I will wind up with 12 of these (trim to fit) as resin flatback casts to add the impression of a welded box to the trails. With them in resin it will be easy to sand to a single profile once they are all fitted. I looked at just an edge bead but it was too flimsy and would be difficult to get it to stay on.

Hi All,

Shovel fittings done. I've mounted it a bit too far forward in relation to the strap fittings but I can reposition it on the final build once I have the metal castings. It gives you the right idea though.

Beautiful part! Is this the styrene master or the cast?
I wondered on those parts too! Though your part is not present on the Pheasant the fixture that is attached to the breech handle, and engages this mystery part, is (see photo below).



Your mystery part has a ramp that engages the cam and roller attached to the breech handle.



Since it only works one way (there is a stop on one side of the roller and on the handle) it will possibly be a mechanism that automatically opens the breech, and ejects the shell casing after comming in battery again after recoil (the example in the photo has not returned into battery, it got stuck halfway recoil).
It could also possibly automatically pretension the spring to open/close the breechblock, so it operates with less effort. Fascinating stuff, hope someone knows the answer!

Hi All,

Following the pics from Marcus I have tweaked the part slightly before casting and also added the extra piece to the breech handle. Top and bottom trays also cast and fitted to give the effect of a welded box to the trails, These are in 150mm sections to avoid being too flimsy when demoulding and also to allow for sensible packaging. The waste from the ones cut make the smaller infills where required and the once all glued on I just lightly sanded to blend it all together.

More of the trail detail done. Getting close to the point where commercially this set is done. There will still be a few bits I am sure for the likes of Ian to get his teeth into

There are a couple more trail details to do and some sight parts then its just the seat which I honestly have no idea how to master at this point in time. As the last time I used AutoCAD it did not have a release number is the anyone out there who could possibly 3D print one to offer via someone like Shapeways or let me have a cost for a master?

Great looking parts Dave for the 17 pdr………

My teeth are still biting hard into the 25 pdr gun kit these days.
And I did not go for the 17 pdr kit, but instead went straight for the Morris Quad.
So my thoughts are on any upgrading parts for the Morris, to which I'm sure you
will be addressing some day soon!

Sight detail parts all done, hand spike fitting for the trail ends to do then just the seat which I am stuck on. Hoping one of our intrepid 3D modellers may come to my assistance.

Hand spike socket done. That's it for now.

I'll be sending parts off to my metal casters this week and will be working on the resin moulds in between other bits over the next few weeks. We will be back to this when I have all the parts done and I'll update on the seat if I come up with a master or someone can help.

On to the Quad!!!!!!

Occasionally I come across a part that defeats me but thanks to "The Dutchman" from SAG, OSUK etc it now looks we will have a seat for the 17 Pdr. Hopefully get this printed by Shapeways then a bit more detail to add.
