- It's starting to look like a tank at last.
More 6BA bolts than I care to admit but the tile adhesive welds are holding up well.
One question, what's the thoughts on the taper locks rusting (they look ferrous) and so becoming permanently locked onto the axles? Has anyone had this happen and is it worth putting a bit of copperslip on the axle and woodruff key?

Worth putting copperslip on I found - makes adjustment and removal easier and prevents rusting.

Thanks very much Peter, would you advocate putting a thin film on the taper itself? Or is this best left 'dry' ?

Both posts contain useful official advice on this subject. The advice can be summed up as keep it clean. If you still wish to lubricate, I believe Mark does suggest a dry film moly spray by Rocol, Oxylube:

Personally I always use copperslip and never had a problem - makes installation and removal a breeze and prevents the taper jamming on the axle. Never had one shift position doing this but I may have just been lucky!

Thanks for the advice gents, I shall put the slightest smear on both taper and shaft and report back about performance - that's likely to be 2017 sometime
I did smear all the roadwheel axles with copperslip.

The Knowledge Base advice is the product of Mark's observation of "high mileage" models over many years of production. The point is well made in the topic posts that the issue with wet lubricants is the possibility of particle contamination which can act as a grinding paste and increase wear.
The advice is just that though and other approaches may well be entirely satisfactory if the model isn't subjected to a lot of running.

Wise words and worth saying Stephen, thanks.
My proposed use of copperslip is simply to lessen the likelihood of the sprockets and wheels getting locked onto their respective axles over time, especially if the model has got wet or has run through water, or simply long-term storage in anything other than a dessicated environment.
As I understand it, the nature of the material is that it isn't a lubricant - the copper dust deforms under load and should not interfere with any clamping mechanism.
Of course I remain to be proved wrong and will expect many "I told you so's" when my sprockets and wheels fall off!

I would agree John - I have run the wheels off some models over a period of years without an issue with copperslip - the difference is of course that the sprocket, taper lock and axle are not moving against each other so there is no grinding affect taking place. Don't go moaning to Mark though if you don't take Armorteks official advice
