I have been thinking of something like your moving hatches. Great inspiration!

Thanks!

Have progressed a bit now as able to spray the hull at long last not too sure about the colour though although it is supposed to be authentic a bit of camo will make a difference I guess. I know the late Tiger didn't have a spare track link rack on the front but I decided I would like one as plenty of spare links. As you can see from the turret I have added a counter weight to the barrel, takes a bit of strain of the elevation motor also put a nylon block on the front of the motor bracket to help take the weight off the motor plastic housing. Also re-positioned the elevation limit switches and raised the elevation bracket up to give more barrel elevation.

Hi Dennis!
The elevation mechanism, is that your own design or is this how they come these days? My 2010 Tiger had the elevation motor vertical, protruding down into the hull.

Cheers,

Hi Chris,

No that's how they come these days. I think Mark first used the system on the Comet, it has a few advantages and some disadvantages. The main advantage being that the motor doesn't stick out under the turret thus preventing damage when you take the turret off and put it down also you don't have to worry about fouling anything in the hull when the turret rotates. I think the main disadvantage is the lack of elevation (hence my mod) and I think the motor struggles a bit more (that's why I added counterweight on mine). I was going to convert mine to the same system as on your Tiger but decided against it in the end. I am not sure what system he is going to use on Cent, KT and Stug.

Put the tracks on yesterday and took it for a spin (meant to take a video but forgot) it performed really well. Barry was with me and he has one of the very early Tigers so he advised on track length, we had to take out 5 links from either side in the end so I reckon about 93 links left in unless I mis-calculated when I built the tracks.

Getting there slowly, all electronics now finished and working. Camo to finish on main hull and turret. Hopefully will be ready for Bovvy Tiger Day.

Well it's finished, not sure about the paint job though, perhaps it will grow on me. Taking it to Tiger Day at Bovvy tomorrow so we will see what people think, I expect there will be a few comments. Animatronic figures still to be added and a few other extras as well. I have set up a 3 position switch on the TX for 3 different rates on the speed control and by flicking the switch up and down it simulates gear changes. The Spektrum servo setups allow you to alter both spped and travel of the servos so I can adjust the speed of the opening and closing of the hatches. The telemetry system allows me to monitor the battery voltages, temp of the amplifier module in the tank and also gives a display of the amount of signal the receiver is receiving. The failsafe works well, if I turn the TX off when tank going at speed it stops dead after about two feet. Will do a video of the gun flash, recoil, lights and hatches opening and closing under radio control at a later date.

Hi Dennis,
Camo looks great, have a good day at Bovington.
Great idea with the rates on the 3 position switch.
It would be great if that gear change operation and the sounds
show up on your vidio's.
Cheers
