Hi Colin

I the few war-time photos of the vision port I have seen in the books I have, I did not see any markings for open/close. As it is a simple left-right turning nob to open and close the external armor visor not sure directions would be needed. Panzer III and Stug III levers do not have any markings on them for open/close either. The small button-looking thing at the bottom I think may have had a circular decal or plate around it. I will dig around to see if I can find anything there.

As to the knob color, I believe it would be black and not red.

a few example photos I had on my computer. One is war0time and the other, I believe is the restored Bovington's.

Here are some pictures I took of the driver view port from the Saumur Tiger 1. Slightly different hand wheel here. Probably due to this being late model?

James, have a look at this link. You can work out the dimensions of the glass block from this.

Hi Tim, can you help with a query on the visor and external armour shield.

The rear of the external vertically sliding shield has two recessed areas, one each side. Do these line up with the two vertical bars internally, or are the internals for the external vertical armour sections, one each side.

I am trying to find details of how the internal elements connect to the external sliding visor shield.

The two parts internally, one each side of the vision block, seem to have slots for vertical movement, so are these connected to the shield outside, and if so, what device between inside and outside works the shield.

Also, how are the two external side elements of the shield attached to the front plate.

Regards, Simon.
