Re: Saumur
Hi John,
Thanks for the great photos. Did you get any of the PZ II L (Luch) while you were there? I forgot to ask you to take some while you were there! Doh!
Its on my top 10 places to visit in France someday!
Best regards,
Bob

Re: Saumur
Bob, I just took photos of the Panzer II in the photobucket folder. I think there must have been another area for tanks under restoration which I missed completely. I have some more photos to add still.
Worth a visit but allow a couple of days. They would not let me climb up on the tanks for photos. I had a tripod so I could use it to get height and used timer delay.

Ha ha thats a good one JohnJohn Fitzsimons wrote:I was just passing through the area and said nothing to my partner about tank museum in the area.

When I visit Saumur we did a one day trip by train from Paris, as my wife love all French and never had been to Loire it was not that hard to convince them to the importance to make a visit.
After all Loire is a beautiful place...

Their Panther Ausf G is stored outside some 75 meters left of the museum entrance under a roof of another building.

Her torsion bars are missing so she is hard to move and I believe she is still under that roof.
Your pannier photo shows that the weld are countersunk and is made from the outside-in and I am certain that weld on an early Ausf G in made in the same way.
Kind regards
Kent

Re: Saumur
Hello John, thanks for posting the wonderful pictures of the Saumur Tanks! I am modeling my King Tiger on the Saumur version, although trying to match that light (pebble?) color has been a challenge. Surely that wasn't an authentic color the germans used was it? Again thanks for the photos they are a huge help!

Re: Saumur
Hi Tom,
I doubt that the paint scheme is accurate. It is supposed to be one of the only King Tigers running on actual King Tiger parts. The museum produces a series of books on their collection. I got one on the King Tiger. Just €10. You may find it online.
Kent, I got the ferry to Roscoff and was heading to Chamonix so the route passed close to Saumur. Some of the other ports would be more convenient but the Roscoff route suited my agenda and my partner got to see Chateau du Chenenceau. Heading to Montenegro after Chamonix and wondering if I can find some tanks along the way. There was an abandoned sherman along the road outside roscoff.

Re: Saumur
Hi John,
Great photo bucket pics of Saumur, especially the exterior and interior one's on their T34/85.
I was at Saumur a few years ago with my brother, I must look them out and post them on Armortek website too.
Cheers

Re: Saumur
I found the pics that a friend from Taiwan took over three days visit to Saumur a few years ago. I was sent a CD with thousands of pics of his 3 days visit. A fantastic collection of Tanks, closeups etc, too few to put on Armorteks website.
Lists of some of the tanks photographed.
Saumur Panther G liberated by the 'free french' during WWII. (Outdoors under cover)
Saumur T34/76.
Saumur T34/85. (Indoors and Outdoors).
JadgPanther V / BergePanther / PzKw V Panther / Two PzKw IV / Late Tiger 1 / Le Tigre Royal Koenigstiger /
And other vehicles etc...
Anybody wanting copies of above from Saumur, but I want be turning out loads of CDs. Just the odd pics that members want for reference etc.
Cheers

Re: Saumur
Great to add these. Kent will be glad of the panther photos. I screwed up and photographed the wrong panther.

Re: Saumur
Whilst I would be the first to welcome more pictures from Saumur, especially as I've not been there yet, in light of Mark's recent posting re pictures degrading the performance of the forum, may I suggest that they are added to the Gallery, rather than the Forum ?
Adrian.

So I will switch to the Gallery and put all my Saumur pics on there.
Thanks
