Stood at the side of Boscombe down runway as a B52 took off and then the Vulcan what a sound ......fantastic stuff, the only other sound that stirs my sole , and I miss it very much is the chally2.
I suppose the ultimate engine noise would be a Saturn 5 or maybe the Shuttle!

How about on exercise on salisbury plain in winter in the dead of night being surrounded by Chieftain tanks the crews of which have no idea that you are there, as 60 odd tons passes within feet of you and sometimes over your fox hole the sound of that multi fuel two stroke screems so loud and the ground shakes , then you jump on the vehicle to delivery your chosen ordinace warm you fingers and then your off !

Thought you might like the sound of 2 AFV's
A short video taken at last years Tankfest (2010). There is a long! black leader, stick with it. The first part is one of those SPG things the Germans made during WW11, The second is a Challenger 1 ,with a Major General (rtd.) in the turret.
Turn up the volume and enjoy!

I don't mean to horn in on your Lancaster discussion and I know I'm a month late to the party, but since someone has already posted a shot of American WWII bombers, I thought I'd throw on a couple shots of a B-17 that appeared in Charleston, SC a while back. This one also tours the US and sells rides. Couldn't afford the ride, but did get a couple fly-by shots....

You are so lucky to be able to 'buy a ride' in a ww11 B17. The closest i have come, is a flight to Duxford in a C47.

Doug, what stunning pics, especially the second one.
John, the gallant general is Arthur Denaro, who commanded the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars battlegroup in the first Gulf War. The Challenger I is marked up as his command tank, indeed it might even be said vehicle, I can't remember. He wouldn't have got away with standing up in the turret then. Of course, Bovvy isn't so lively as Iraq but nevertheless, it's something to think about in our models - you wouldn never see more than a head above the turret line in any tank anywhere near action. We could save a lot of money if Dragon and co just did heads and shoulders.
