For four days now every time I walk past my turret and look at it , the gap around the roof edge keeps on bugging me , So today I made a template with a real nice tight fit and then cut out a new alloy roof . In the morning I'll take it to the sheet metal shop to be bent , this time i have a hair line gap all the way around . I will move the loaders hatch and the vent into the correct spots plus no holes to fill ... Dale

I machined the eight smooth headed bolts in the turret roof for the internal travel lock , filled all the bolt holes and added the fake welds .. Mike stannards parts test fitted

Hi Dale, great work on your tiger!
But I have a doubt about ventilator position on the turret, I remember from tiger1.info site that ventilator was approximately on the center of the turret.
But maybe I can remember incorrectly ;)

Thanks Andrea . Good pick up on the vent . In the photo it slips off centre when I took the photo .. The vent is now bolted on the centre line of the gun ... Dale

Just to the point of being able to drive. Next step is to tidy up the interior. Then starts the phase of adding all the details. :D

Cheers,

Hi Dale,
Your turret is looking great. I have just started my Late tiger and am also starting with the turret. Like you I have a gap around the roof, but mainly at the front of the turret. I am not happy with the turret front fit. Seems to sit higher on the left than the right. Did you do some reshaping on the turret front along the top and sides as yours seems to follow the angles of the wrap and top really well. Also my roof sits about 4mm above the top of the wrap and has a ledge cut into the roof front which sits on the turret front.

This is my first attempt at an Armortek model so any assistance will be appreciated. I will start a post on my build soon.

John

Hi John

The late Tigers had an increased turret top thickness for improved armor. It should sit proud of the turret sides. Dales is a mid production and the turret deck sits flush with the sides. Hope that helps.

David Gray's Tiger is a great source of reference in the Gallery section for us late Tiger builders. (or any Tiger builders for that matter)
