Yes, I totally agree with that statement David, the Model should sound and look as the owner wants it to.
Kick me if I am wrong, but I thought the forum was here to give new members the correct information, and the original question from Steve Lord was
hi john
i am a new member and have a mid-tiger 1 which i need the sound unit for.do you know if your panther unit and the tiger are the same or different.
thanks
steve
So to answer that, yes they are different, if you want it to sound right then you need a Tiger 1 sound unit and not the Panther. If you are going to show your model, then you will be highly detailing it

so it can compete with other models. The last show I was at, one model was rejected because it was in the wrong makers category, so maybe the wrong engine sound might be picked up

Yes, you are right.
This forum is for sharing information. It is also for like-minded lads and lasses to swop information, views, interest on a common subject.
Its members exchange pleasant comment, views and information so that we can all share and learn from each other .
There does, in my own view, and that is all it is, seem to be a 'head in the sand view ' to having a superb looking Tiger 1 tank actually sounding like a Tiger 1 tank. Much as other types have their correct sounds.
Not convinced of the reasons given for accepting less, but if it's required by the owner to sound like a turkey, thats fine, it is the owners choice.
Or, is it simply that there is not the correct alternative.
There are some great tank sounds out there, and that is undisputed.
Will drop the subject, as it seems there is not any support for my view. It is only my view and i feel at liberty to express it openly . It says much for this forum that one can feel free to express an opinion on our shared vice,
Regards, SF.

Hi Paul
Go on; get it off you chest. What model, at which Show?
<<The last show I was at, one model was rejected because it was in the wrong makers category, so maybe the wrong engine sound might be picked up>>
Spill the filth. Name and shame!
Nothing like petty, pedantic, killjoys trying to spoil the hobby. Lets give them a good verbal kicking.
Or maybe you are just a sniper too?
Cheers, Fabrice
PS FWIW I think ANY tank motor sound is a great addition to a tank model if it hides the dreary whine of the electric motors!

Hello Fabrice.
Just wondered if you missed this bit from the above post.
"Its members exchange pleasant comment, views and information so that we can all share and learn from each other"
I have known Paul now for a good few years...and he is more often to be found bending over backwards to help people out rather than spilling the filth or trying to shame anyone or snipe at them.
Neither is he into character assassination public...or otherwise.
Lastly if your post was intended to be a joke... and i have missed it please take this one the same way
Cheers Paul

Paul and Paul,
My post was intended to be OTT and satirical, and not character assassination!
Mr Wills seemed irked that a model had been "rejected because it was in the wrong makers category". If this statement relates to tank models at all, I am interested to know why and where, because many of the model-makers on this forum would probably like to know too.
If this was the case, it follows that the judges' decision reflects a growing pedantry in the hobby. Unfortunately, and perhaps unintentionally, Paul's last paragraph implies that the "wrong" sound sample makes the model uncompetitive and not worth showing. I find that prospect distasteful and worth of poking a little fun at.
Simon and Richie are right, if you like the Panther sample more than the Tiger, fit it. It can't be any less accurate than the sound of the 12bore blank firer nor any less realistic than the weak stream of vapour that we all accept as representing exhaust fumes.
Mr Lord wisely has put the issue to one side. So all the "pleasant comment, views and information " clearly solved that one then. Not.
Then there is the whole issue of speaker design, frequency response and hull location, which can make your Tiger or Panther sound like a Sherman anyway! Perhaps time for a new thread..
Cheers,
Fabrice

Hi All,
I have spoken to John about this thread and we are now going to lock it.
He has someone interested in his sound unit, however if he does not sell it he will re post in a new topic.
In future when items are posted for sale please keep the thread clear for questions and answers directly related to that item and post any other thoughts, opinions etc in the general section.
Many thanks
Gill
