Can't wait to see the prototype in gleaming aluminum! Very interesting model choice. She'll be a beauty I'm sure. My hats off to Mark and Gill.

How many will be produced?

Hi Gill

Will this have the same drive system, or some thin new, so you can knock it out of gear, and push it with ease? just a thought

Nice model.

Drive systems

Post by Armortek »

Richie

The drive system on the new Comet will be essentially the same as the other models. So for example, the full size King Tiger was a relatively slow lumbering tank, and therefore the model is designed to be slow and lumbering compared to others in the range. Anything else would be make a gross scale inaccuracy. The Comet was relatively fast and agile, so we have designed the model to be relatively fast and agile. It will be the fastest tank in the current range by about 50%.

We do not use a gearbox with a dog clutch for free wheeling for the following reasons:
1 They are unreliable at these torque requirements.
2 They are physically to big to fit inside the space available.
3 They are very expensive.

Mark,

I think Richie is worried that if a tank should breakdown it would be easier to move :o Clive Lockwood used this system in his scratch build Sherman, and it works well, it might be worth looking into8) Myself, I am not worried at the moment, having built and run all my Armortek models since 2004, the only breakdowns I have had were coursed by me not taping connections up or not doing proper maintenance on it, so only me to blame then!!

Can't wait to get my hands on the Comet though, it's British, it's an Armortek model :D and oh yes, it can take out a Panther. Watch out Antony, I am coming for your Hageunau   8)

Good to see Gill and Mark have changed the comet price .. Us Aussie's where scratching our heads yesterday trying to work out how it could be the same price as a Mid tiger . Now it looks better .... Looking at the shop page armortek are just about sold out of everything this is good for Gill and Mark and must be a great feeling for them !!! Now that the Mid Tiger's are all sold out and the comet ticking over I wonder if Mark and Gill are going to do another kit soon otherwise there's not much for new customers to buy . Dale

HALF TRACK, NEEDS ALOT OF WORK{WINTER JOB}, BUT RUNS ACE

THE STUG, YES NOTHIN TO DO, MINT   WHY DO ANYTHIN?

KT, DID MY OWN THING WITH THE WIRING, AND SOLD IT,AND BOUGHT THREE MODELS IN ITS PLACE, I JUST FELL OUT OF LOVE WITH THE KT. SO YES AND NO,

Mark

Was only asking as Clive made my Sherman and you can knock it out of gear which is great for moving it around the garage, but it would be very expensive.

I must be clairvoyant - its just a few days since I was muttering about Christie suspension on this forum.

When confronted with the mocked up 'model under a sheet' I could have sworn it was going to be an Elefant.
