I seem to recall we used 1ball 1tracer. On the Coax but not 100% if we used the same for the commanders GPMG. Can anyone confirm at all ? Most likely the same as why carry 2 different types ?
All good fun
Phil your continue to amaze me and thank you for sharing as usual .
This is truly the last one honest........., 1-1 mix on challenger (though looking closely some tracers are missing or is that usual on the start of a belt?):
Our original supplier of decals and my artwork disappeared many moons ago and since then we have been using decals from Peddinghaus. These decals come from the set they supply us from existing artwork. If anyone fancies paying for custom artwork and a minimum run for probably less than 30 tins then I'll be happy to ask them if they can produce a suitable decal. You can always do what I do on mine and have a rubber stamp made which is far more effective in representing the box stencilling.
Thanks for those excellent images: make great references, with a range of dates, differences in markings, and different liner manufacturing methods.
The 1965 dated cans are interesting with Ball from Radway Green (RG) and Tracer from Kynoch (K). Of course, the 'staged' length of rounds don't match the contents, (1 US Tracer, 3 Ball, 1 AP), which brings me to another point: US Tracer has an Orange tip, whereas Brit tracer in the 1960s at least had a red tip, so if modelling Brit linked rounds accurately for the Chieftain, every fifth round would need to have a red tip in links with a 4:1 ratio.
The smoke control unit now upgraded arrived today, thank you Adrian. I shall install that tomorrow with a short video of my high pressure smoker working as it should!

Reference photo for battery positions as air freight do not allow any batteries on board.
The max fan speed needs to be set around 52% for best results, less if your using the tank indoors. To high and the oil will be blown out the exhausts!

Today I've been sorting those little jobs like tightening bolts and nuts , everything nice and tight for the road and air journey, I've been labelling the connections and getting the pallet ready and what a pallet.

The new all plastic shipping crate, more than 300 notes but worth every penny to keep the big chieftain safe.

Almost ready to drive the Chieftain on to the pallet. I've been touching up the engine bay paint work and had to lower the exhaust a couple of mm to get the gear box hatches to sit nicely. I won't book the shippers until it's all secure and buttoned up as there's nothing worse than the pressure with a deadline approaching, that's how things get forgotten or overlooked!

The very beefy pallet needed holes for the internal strapping, that will hold the tank in place along with those tram lines in treated timber.
Down off the work table for I hope the last time.
Once on the pallet the batteries are then removed, I'm not looking forward to that as it's so tight in there and the fact that she's a dead weight without them!
