I did get a moment to relook at the tank before going off to work and the left rear idler inner is 2/3mm closer to the hull than the right one. That could really influence the track issue I think but at this stage I’m not sure how to adjust it.

Has anyone seen this before?

It is top and bottom as I thought.

This afternoon I have swooped the tracks over and bizarrely the problem has moved over with it . The RHS that ran perfectly well now is mis-aligned and the LHS is much better.

I think I’m going to put it on the ground tomorrow minus as much weight as possible as see if I can get further than 5 metres

Hi Jerry

Both idler shafts looked to be installed ok unfortunately.

I have refitted the tracks and ran it for a while off the ground. The left hand side tracking running sounds spot on and just the same as the Armortek tanks I watched at Tankfest last summer. This is the side that did not jump off its sprocket when running on the ground.

The other side, RHS, is a different matter however. The noise is very different , lots and lots of clacking going on and the tracking is just about taking the paint off the side of the hull.

Despite the wheels all in alignment the track appears to be circulating around 2/3mm inside where it should do in respect to both the wheels and the hull.

There is no scope of moving the wheels closer to the hull and neither would I wish to given that the track is already touching the hull, so what are the options of making the tracking move 2/3 mm away from the hull?

I have measured everything I can think of from one side to the other and see only very minimal differences - rarely more than 1 mm.

I wonder if I should swop over firstly the sprocket wheels from the LHS to the RHS and then the idler wheels to see if the problem swops sides!

Something for the weekend unless someone can see just what I am missing.

Thanks for your time

Mick
Hold on. Why are the 'connector' links mounted upside down???? The links that don't have the guide horns need to be installed with the waffle pattern facing out. Or am I seeing things???

You are spot on - many thanks - I’m very grateful to you and everyone who has given their time to assist.

I just need to get hold of 200 split pins now - what size are they?

I have rebuilt both tracks the correct way - thanks Jerry - but to no avail.

Having taken all the weight off the tank and with the tension bars fully extended I tried to run the tank again this morning but the LHS track ran straight off the top of the sprocket within 2/3 feet of running.

I cannot extend the tension bar ( long type) any further and I cannot get a set of track links out and rejoin the track.

Any thoughts at all would be welcome

Many thanks

Thanks for the offer but if you look at previous pics there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with them at all I don’t think

I have some with a longer throw that you are welcome to try. but even with very loose tracks we have never dropped the track off the sprocket, so not sure if it will help in any way. The offer is there.

When I next get to look at the tank I think I might swop the spindles over from LHS to RHS to see if the problem migrates with it. If it doesn’t then I have no ideas left.

I will post the outcome.

Really appreciate your input

Mick

Hi Mick
Have you checked the sprocket rings are timed correctly
ie they match inner and outer .
I don't have your model but it's easy to get the teeth out of line .
And it will definitely throw a track.
Just a thought .
