Hi Phil
Nice job on the winch.
What Diameter cable did you get in the end and what sort of length ?
Also are you going to make the guide pins and brackets to stop the cable coming off the winch drum.
You can see these on Vince's build and several others.
Thanks
Derek

Thanks Derek.
I used 2mm diameter cable,I don't know what the scale version was,but the gap in the
rollers is not much bigger.
Sorry I forgot to take the length but it was about 7 meters long, again I don't know
if there was a scale length.
I took the drum and my hook to my cable maker and just wrapped it round until it was full enough, plus 300mm to go through the back.
I was going to put the pins on,but you cant see much of the winch, the way I have had
to locate my equipment, but I was going to experiment with spring loading some how if
needed,to keep the cable under tension towards the drum.
I would have thought in practice during winding in the weight of the winch hook would
put some tension on the cable and in practice for realing out I cant see that the crew would not assist with realing out the hook.
So that's what I will be doing when I operate my winch,I will assist both out and in
also when it is stowed leave slightly under tension.
I am also putting a switch in mine to prevent any accidental operation, this will only
be like operating that clutch lever at the back by the rollers.
the switch will be hidden along with my exhaust switch.
Cheers
Phil

Phil
Thanks I will be interested to see how you get on.
I will make the guide pins as I think it will be hard to keep
a constant tension on the cable all the time and they had them on the real thing too
Keep up the good work
Derek

Hi Derek
Yes I would have deffinately put the pins on if mine could be seen, but with my build
I have lost some of the look through undernieth the deck, trying to fit in and hide
the electronics.
Camoflauge is my problem
Physicaly and design wise,I think the pins would be of more use with the winch at rest
because on start up of the winch to pay out the cable,I think without assistance the
winch drum would soon back wind.
Cheers
Phil
