Ref the couplings let's see what shows when the engine gets here and go from there, I may need a hand? The discs diameter are on that sketch I sent. I can measure tomorrow and let you know with a photo of the small model parts for reference, the outside diameter was 14.47 (1/35 scale) but I will check tomorrow.
We could do with a good diagram or photo of the main brake and the steering brake discs and how it's all configured, I wonder if Stephen would kindly post any for us please?

That makes it 84mm for 1/6 scale. Feels a bit too much. I was thinking more like 40mm.

The mockup was what looked right and were more like 50 maybe, they were big mind they had a lot of weight to stop. Can you get an idea from this model?

So I have been doing some research on the disk brakes. I had a look at the drawing Stephen posted when we needed some information on the exhaust box and from that drawing I estimated that it is about 70mm for 1/6 scale.

So I had a look at my drawing from the side and drew a couple of circles. One is 70mm diameter and the other one is 55mm diameter (it sort of looks good). The 70mm circle is too large. I could lower the output shaft a little (big job to do that) but I still think it will look too big.

The blue horizontal line is where the disk brake unit would have to be cut to fit in your lowered false floor.

What shall I do?

p.s. The 55mm circle looks similar to the diskbrake on that 1/35 scale gearbox.

55 looks good boss , do you think you get those ribs in the fly wheel coupling ? With luck it will be just a matter of sliding the gearbox closer to the engine to get it to mate up.

OK. Will do them 55mm diameter. When you were doing the mockup of the disk brakes today what diameter were you using in the mockup? 60mm?

Also, what thickness shall I use for the braking disk?

That was just some laser cut dics I had kicking around and sliced to a rough height .The diameter looks strange once it's sliced!
I will measure the little model tomorrow I think they were .58 (1/35)

How does the disk brake look. Took a bit of head scratching. Again Stephen's diagram came to the rescue for some basic angles.

You have a talent Vince that's for sure, the gearbox has tons of detail, the discs brakes look excellent. I'm still not sure what colour to paint it and wether they used another disc brake or two for steering and main braking?8) Could you show the centre of the disc with a divet or shaft or something please?

I guess this is so that you can locate the centre. If I had to make a small shaft what size would be good for you?

6mm would be fine, I may be able to cut a slot in the floor to let the whole disc slip in, just depends what's under that part

Yep that will do the trick

Sent you the stl files for the sliced components.

It's on the printer, I did select extra fine but it would have taken 17hrs! So it's set to normal and that takes nearly 5hrs.

It looks very impressive vince, the boss will be pleased!
