Looking great ! ...Camo looks perect !.... A light "wash" and some weathering chalks or pastels and your model would be off the charts !!!...

Collected all the barrel camo photos that I could find but wasn't in the mood of pencilling in the camo scheme and painting it. So instead, I did the turret wrap numbers. As the paint masks I have are not good to be used on zimmeritt, I used the paint mask as a template to cut another mask from paper based masking tape which adheres better to the zim.
And the finished numbers. Tomorrow when the paint would be dry I will touch up some areas with a very fine paint brush.

You have the numbers angled in the wrong direction they should follow the top line of the turret

Thanks Mark for your observation. I suspected that you would notice it. The other side looks better. I was using the paint mask that I had as is which is similar to this:

I just did not want to go to the trouble of re-making new paint masks so used some artistic licence. As it is, I have many parts on my Tiger that do not look like the original.
Still, thanks for your valued input.

the Picture shown is for a Heer Abteilung in Italy which used different markings and layout.
the think about s.SS.Pz.Abt.102 is that the numbers you used are all far too neat the Abteilung used thin hand painted numbers yours look far to neat and a little on the large side however having them lean the opposite way will cure a lot of things

Thanks for those details Mark. I will have to remember them just in case in the future I decide to do something about it. For now I will leave them as they are and just say that it is a fictitious June 44 late variant Tiger 1.
This model will be living at home with my other models and my wife loves it as it is although I am not really happy with the camo scheme. Pencilled in the barrel camo so that will be next. Can't wait to get this painting phase done and dusted.

Finished painting the barrel with the green patches and then decided that it would be a good idea to fit the spare track links to the turret while it was still on the table.
Good thing I made the modification to the upper track link holders. Those track links are not going anywhere! Then I put some spare track link pins in the spare tracks to see how they look. From period photos, I could see that the spare pins were not always stored there. Also, from period photos, sometimes, the spare pins would protrude from the top of the spare track links. I wonder why?

Hi Vince, sometimes the pins were in the other side of the link, standing on top of the short pin of the lower track link retainer, so then they’ll protrude.

Thanks Simon for that info. So that begs the question of why putting them there and not on the other side of the link where they would not protrude. So went back to the period photos and noticed that the spare track links had spare pins on both sides of the spare links. Never noticed this before.

Painted the two unit markings pink and as I was on a roll fitted all the bits and pieces (tools). Finished (at least that's what I thought) in two years minus two days. Decided to take some photos of the tank but after the second shot - disappointment.
As Mutley used to say; drat and double drat!! I totally forgot to do something on the road wheels!!
I have nearly run out of the green paint and the importer does not have it in stock but it has been ordered. So even if I wanted, I can't do anything. So I guess I have to take a forced break and instead I will be doing some metal butchering. It's been a while since I carved out something and I am missing it.
So most probably I will do another late turret ventilator just for fun.
