Some interesting developments.The boss has sent me a massive L60 model engine and the TN12 gearbox, we now need to assemble and ideally get a 3D printed version made or I fabricate one from scratch. This gives me the physical size of the two lumps with all the sticky outy bits with a view to considering just what I can shoehorn in the engine bay in and around those electric motors.

Anyone up for some 3D printing, or know of a company that may like to do it?

To Dave at Armorpax, do you have any plans for a resin breech for the Chieftain? Also a drivers position detail set, a commanders position detail set?
I will need all of those please.

Tis indeed Stephen, I didn't think you boys were speaking to me as I had bad mouthed the engine lol? Do you have any decent engine, gearbox and donkey photos that could help with 3D printing pricing per chance?

All of those bits bring back memories, the switch box top right mounted on the control cubicle is for the winky pot. The radio harness box lower right is I believe incorrect and a driver´s box. Completely wrong for the loaders station, but could have been put there to keep the tank operational. The loader also operated the radios, the driver only needed intercom to receive instructions from the vehicle commander.

Phil, always delighted to help. Great work you're doing on the Tiger 1. Now, if you promise to stop calling the small engine a "donkey engine" and refer to it as the GUE or "genny", we can do business..... Then I've just got to stop the media person at the Tank Museum referring to tank crewmen as "tankers" and we've cracked it.

I agree with Stephen, wonderful work on the late Tiger.

But I am wondering about your thoughts on the dummy L60 engine placement, unless of course it's a static model you going to build.

Fitting one big 1/6 scaled L60 lump between those rather large motor gear boxes is going to take some serious "wasting".

There will be very little to see with the radiators in place and not a lot to see with them lifted either. The "Tee" section looks fixed on the prototype and I'm guessing it will be awkward to remove.

With the rear deck covers open you should be able to get a glimpse of some of the TN12 gearbox, but there's going to be a lot auxiliary equipment all over the place.

Would it not be better to have some sort of cover set that covers the models actual drive equipment. This cover could be Vac formed to the basic shape of the L60, oil tanks and TN12 then decorated with components radiators/fans, filters and pipework etc giving the illusion of the original engine bay.

John, until I get the big bugger half built I'm not going to commit myself, but an engine/engines and a gearbox have been costed, so just waiting for financial decisions to be confirmed and then off we go, we may even have a L60 in or out as part of the package, lots to think about

I can see where your going with the spare model of the L60 motor, but you can do that scene with that old clunker you have in the work shop

I heard that the Germans got really good at taking engines out, practice makes perfect.

If you're dead set on having a complete engine, then you'll need to takes some notes from Frank's "A 47 years old love" Centurion build and make it a mid-motored tank with chain drive to the sprockets.

Very droll John, Adrian I Have have been considering just that lets see what transpires, I still have to focus on that Late Tiger at present!
If I could get the Chieftain fans to function then I will be happy as all that noise adds to the overall obeisance of the beast.
