Another two small additions to my Tiger.

Found the stl on Thingiverse. It was for a full size helmet so scaled it down.

Looking good, a bit of filler in those areas that the print didn't take maybe? I've not seen areas quite like that before.

Phil
I suspect those print defects could be due to the stl file that was downloaded.

Re-sliced the file again and zoomed in the sliced file and could see some abnormal artefacts which could mean a problem with the original file.

Can you slice the full sized file ? It might be there are shapes there which disappear when reduced by 6 times.

I cannot slice it when it is full size. Have to reduce size to fit the slicer bed before I can slice it.

A long time ago I found a drawing for a Tiger 1 resilient wheel and I made a 3d model from it.
Recently I decided to print it in 1/6th scale. It took me three attempts to only get a half decent print.

Now I know that I have never seen an actual photo of a Late Tiger 1 carrying a spare road wheel but I am seriously thinking of putting the spare wheel on the glacis.

I'm sure many of you have experienced the following.

Recently, during the workshop cleanout (still ongoing), I came across a miniature chain that I had used on another model many years ago. So this morning I went to to workshop to add it to my Tiger 1 but as fate would have it I could not find it. I swear I knew where it was but gave up after a couple of hours searching for it. :x :x :x I already knew where I was going to fix it to my Tiger but alas it wasn't to be.

The simulated tree trunk I have hanging on the side is a bit skinny and I have been meaning to changing it to something a bit larger but I have not come across something suitable. So last week I had a brainwave. Found some free stl files for some tree trunks and after going crazy with the scaling function of the Prusa slicer I 3d printed one. Obviously it was too large for my printer so cut it up in three pieces.

Then, this morning, it dawned on me!! I have to paint this thing!! :x :x :x
Painting is not my forte. Try to avoid it as much as possible. So I think this new simulated tree trunk is going in the scrap heap.

So not a very productive day today although now I am thinking of using a wooden beam instead of the tree trunk. Wooden beams were very commonly used at that time to support building roofs.

What do you think? Was it possible that wooden beams were carried on Tiger 1s? I have an impression of having seen a photo like that but with my luck I won't find it.

Thank you Neil and Martin for your input. That photo gave me some more ideas of what to add to mine.

When I mentioned wood beam in my post, I was referring to a rectangular solid length of wood. Something like this:
Wood Beam
Wood Beam
I think I am sure (that's a contradiction!!) that I saw somewhere a period photo of a Tiger 1 with something like that but I can't seem to locate it (or maybe I dreamt it).

After a lot of toing and frowing (5 months) I finally decided to keep my spare road wheel on the glacis plate.

viewtopic.php?p=97025#p97025

But I needed to improve my 3D print. Ideally it should be printed horizontally for best results but originally was having problems and ended up printing it vertically. So rejigged my CAD model and managed to get a decent print. Also made up a bracket to hold it in place.

Now, another decision I need to take, is to decide what colour I should paint the wheel. If I paint it red oxide it will look like a brand new unused wheel, but if I paint it Dunkelgelb and dirty it up it may look like a cannibalised part from another tank which was quite common during the latter part of the conflict.

Although I am already leaning on one particular paint scheme I was wondering what people here think. Red or yellow??

Hopefully it won't take another five months to do.

Decided to go with the "cannibalised" version of the road wheel so painted Dunkelb and dirtied it up a bit.
