About two years ago I bought a decommissioned AST300 flight simulator, designed more or less for instrument training on prop engine aircraft, the computers although upgraded were old Microsoft NT and 2000 machines with a small screen used to plot the aircraft position, to cut a long story short, I thought I could make this better, I kept the yoke, rudder pedals, throttle quadrant trims and some of the gauges and clocks as well as the main frame the rest was discarded, in the 30+ plus years since the simulator first saw service, electronics and computing have advanced to a stage where even I could design and put together a powerful computer with high end graphics to use the latest flight sim programs.
All the major gauges are now digital including radios and auto pilot, all flight control inputs are through usb interfaces, the end result is I had months of fun learning how to achieve this and a simulator that works
this is the before
this is now

Re: Projects other than tanks
I am putting back as many of my pictures as I can after losing them all, this was the first off topic I did in 2017, on converting an old flight simulator, I have reduced the size again, now uses MSFS running off two linked computers
