New Owner Saying Hello

Post by LiamHoughton »

Hello all,

A big hello from me to you all.
I have recently purchased the Jagdtiger and reserved the upcoming Easy-8 Sherman.
To say that my ownership of one of these amazing kits has been rocky would be an understatement.
I was nearly fortunate enough to own last year’s release of the King Tiger, unfortunately due to family circumstances and the need to purchase a new house I had to reluctantly step away with no indications of ever having the chance again to own one.
Thankfully and with my wife’s blessing and encouragement I found myself in a position to once again see if any kits were still available.
With the help and advice of Monique at Armortek HQ I found myself taking the plunge into Armortek ownership.
I very much look forward to meeting and speaking with many of you during the course of my builds as I’m in no illusion that I will need help.
Hopefully some of my model building skills I’ve learnt from my Tamiya 1/16 scale RC Tanks will help.

So a big thank you in advance. Liam

Liam,
Welcome to the wonderful, sometimes chaotic <in a good way> world of Armortek. This forum is great for tank lovers of all kinds. The Jagdtiger and E8 Sherman are excellent choices. Post a thread of your builds, its the best and fastest way to get help if you need it. Plus it helps keep the interest going on long hauls.
Best regards,
Bob

Liam -

Welcome to the gang ! You've scored off the first basic requirement - you've got a sympathetic wife .

You're going in at the deep end, aren't you ? The biggest kit Armortek have ever made (the JT) AND an Easy 8 ? Good luck, enjoy yourself and, if you get stuck or confused, just ask - someone here will know. And we were all newbies once. Hopefully the show season will return during 2021, which is always the best opportunity to meet up in person (especially Tankfest at Bovington).

And I echo Bob's comment about build threads. We all enjoy them, learn from them, and get to know you through them. Just look at a few and you'll soon figure out the style you want to write in .........

Best wishes,

Chris

Welcome! I like the pair of tanks you are getting. Good vs. bad. Jt and Sherman. Sadly I don’t think the Sherman stands a chance unless you buy about 7 more of them to fight that Jagdtiger.

Well done Liam and well done to Liams wife too, sounds like a his and hers collection
There'll be long stints when she may not see you for sometime, unless you've got a good coffee service running.
I find a sweet heart photo an excellent Idea.
Time to sling the polystyrene glue away and get the grinder out.

Hi guys,

Thank you all for the very warm welcome to the world of Armortek Tank ownership.
To answer a few questions yes my wife is very sympathetic and supportive of my hobbies.

The main reason being my 15yr AirForce career was suddenly and catastrophically ended in 2014 when I was knocked off of my motorbike transiting home from work leaving me in a coma with only my legs not broken or damaged, but permanent spinal problems.
As such she supports me with anything that gives me a purpose or long term goal to work towards.
Maybe the Man Utd season ticket I bought her helped too lol.

I first pulled the trigger on reserving the Easy-8 as I have always loved how the HVSS version looked.
The Jagdtiger was purchased within 24hrs of the above as I remembered it was a King Tiger at heart and with me unfortunately having to give up my slot for one I thought stuff it and what the hell go for it.

I very much look forward to speaking and meeting with you in person hopefully next year if the show season is allowed to resume as that would be invaluable to get hints and tips but also see how you accomplished certain aspects of the builds.

Thank you in advance. Liam
