Morris Quad References

Post by Kevin Hunter »

Hi all,

There are a few (hopefully) useful books out there that people may not be aware of.

WWP (Wings & Wheels Publications) R049 British 25pdr Field Gun In Detail. Those of us who already have this for the 25Pdr will know that it includes a section on tractors.

They also do
WWP (Wings & Wheels Publications) R079 FAT In Detail

In addition ARMY WHEELS IN DETAIL: MORRIS COMMERCIAL C8 QUAD is published by Capricorn Publications.

Google should turn up various suppliers, or the WWP books can be ordered directly from their website.

Regards

Kevin

My dad has his ordered, no financial involvement from me this time 8)

I've got a question: we want to do a desert colour scheme. Not including the "Pheasant", were 17pdrs towed by quads in Africa? I think I read somewhere they had them in Italy, any photos or ideas for camo?

Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin

My unqualified answer re the 17 Pdr/Quad in Africa is "probably" :D

Certainly the Pheasant was in Africa (late 1942, early 43 I believe). It's reasonable to assume that the 17pdr "proper" appeared once available later in '43 and before the Italian campaign where they definitely featured. Perhaps with a degree of poetic licence I think you'd get away with modelling the 17 Pdr and Quad as North Africa.

I have some new books en-route concerning both the Quad and British anti-tank guns so if I come across a definitive reference I'll post it for you. One thing I am sure of - there are more qualified experts on here who may give you an answer in the meantime.

As regards colour schemes, can you get your hands on a copy of the Warpaint books? Also, Mike Starmer does some excellent reference books. These include a volume on North Africa '42-'43 and one on Sicily / Italy '43-'45.

Regards
Kevin

Thanks Kevin,

Hopefully there will be a stall selling those books at Tankmod?
