Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.
Hi vince I will as soon as I get to the workshop in the morning, we do have the floor lowered sections either side to consider as well but that's just a square drop, can you give me the width of your gearbox or shall we wait for the model to arrive? We can also lose a couple of mm off the smoke box and bracket depth to give us a bigger slice of the gear box to.The brake disc units can be done separately

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.
Phil, the dimensions I am using are very rough estimates. I just wanted to draw something so that I could add the exhaust box brackets and the exhaust box. I shortened the brackets as much as possible and made the exhaust box 20 mm deep (maybe I can reduce that further but not sure). When tomorrow you give me that dimension I will slice the drawing to see how much of the gearbox will be available.

I've started the gearbox body draft print Vince and it's going to be around 4 hrs. I was having a few issues with the build plate adhesion and spent some time sorting it out, after some intense scrubbing of the glass build plate and some careful leveling it seems to be almost perfect! I'm on my third kilo of pla filament since I acquired the machine.

As I said earlier, that is a rough drawing with dimensions using eyeball MK2 equipment (obsolete).

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.
That looks good vince, not tried it for size yet, that's the biggest thing I have printed so far! I will get the covers and the brackets underway as soon as the bed releases the gearbox, it's stuck like jam to a blanket.
If that had all the detail Inc bolts it would be fantastic!

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.
Hope you can get it off the table.
I did not put in the details because it was meant to be a test drawing. Things that can be added are the bolt heads, some webs, some other bits and pieces and rounding off the edges.

Sorry I was lazy not converting the figures from 1/35 to 1/6 , been very busy with the engine bay. How does the size compare to the 1/35 model to the draft.

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.
To get a sense of the size you need to print the two side covers also and glue them to the sides of the gearbox body. Looking at those photos my first impression is that we are not far off. I measured my drawing and with the side covers installed (looking from front or back) it is 120mm wide. If you have the 1/35 model see how far off I am. Converting the 120mm to 1/35 scale should give a width of 20.6mm.
Vince
p.s. I looks so much better with the primer paint on.

Vince if I get a jagdtiger to build we could do a wicked full interior for that, or a RR, or an Antar, or what ever the next post war vehicle is in the wings just waiting for us!

The side pieces are finished printing, they should bond nicely and fit just fine over the raised gearbox section in the floor! Nicely done Vince! I will be on it first thing tomorrow.

Phil
From here it looks OK but you are in a better position to judge. If you are happy with what you are seeing I can add some details.
Is the height OK? Does it interfere with the engine deck parts?

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.
The height is fine with a couple of mm spare, I say go for it Vince do your magic, how about the separate side pieces being part of one big print? Even the disc brakes could be integral my printer has a 310x310x310 build envelope so there's plenty of room
