Haven't been to the workshop to check on what material I have yet. Daughter came from the UK as university labs have closed down and so at the moment in mandatory self-isolation till Wednesday.
Passed the time making a 3D drawing instead.

Does it look OK? I am wondering if it can be 3D printed. I don't have a 3D printer but if anybody wants to give it a go I can send the .stl file.

I've been bent over the chieftain all day Vince, that looks awesome. Shame I don't have a 3d printer, anyone fancy a go? I've just had a look on eBay and the printers are not much dosh, £150 gets you started and it looks like it would print the shells ok. Only problem is driving the dam thing !

Great details Phil. Vince, you might find these helpful, they're from Rob Griffin's book, for reference.

Your HESH round model looks great. Note that on the base, there should be four circular recesses, which are the vents for the tracer. They're visible on the last photo.

Love those drawings Stephen. That last pic shows drill rounds alright, you can see the crimps in the small arms . Now I wonder if someone would like to produce the decals?

Don't go by the markings on the photo at the bottom, they're not original. I'm guessing the rounds shown are drill rounds used in the sim, ie the turret drills trainer or were taken at Lulworth, the RAC Gunnery School, or the RAC Gunnery Wing in Hohne, Germany. The font is wrong and they're obviously transfers. I've put other photos on the Forum with the correct markings. The text on the diagrammes is correct.

As we are on the subject of shells, I found these old photos as I was going through my old albums, it shows me instructing the guys on how to use a shaped charge to cut through a shell, this one was inert. I will say no more other than good days

Now if I've got the correct information ( or rather the information correct) the metadyne compartment and it's contents provided a very consistent reliable and infinitely variable dc current for the turret traverse and gun elevation/depression control.
The system seems to have been very troublesome in service, I would think that the access to the system compounded any problems, and looking through the armoured hatch/plate you can see why, I shall attempt to reproduce the basic components, although a fair bit of guess work will be required!

Vince, I've been looking at 3d printers to print these shells. What do you recommend I get, are the ultraviolet machines any good, can I run one with a normal laptop? So many questions! Ebay has a good selection of cheap machines that look like they could do the job.
