Paint stripper

I'm looking for some paint stripper which works, anyone have any ideas

Nitromors always does it for me.

I've also used the white gloopy stuff from Polycell but that released something which attacked all the bare steel in my garage

I probably should say this is for stripping paint from a number of stahlhelm I have the paint is tough on some, do you think Nitromors will still work Adrian.

I don't think I've ever met a paint it can't handle but I've tried anything that old.

Hi Mark, I had a problem removing paint from 1940s motorbikes, using modern traditional paint strippers, they have been made more user friendly but less effective, someone recommended Starchem paint stripper you can find this on that well known auction site, not user friendly and has health warnings, use outside, I was well pleased with the results

I found the easiest and most effective paint stripper for tank parts is cellulose paint thinners. About £12 for 5 litres. Buy a metal bucket to put larger parts in. Can be used several times before losing it's effectiveness. Works virtually instantaneously, but don't use in the house, due to the smell. Will eventually evaporate if left uncovered so you don't have to dispose of any chemical. It will melt resin parts though.

Thanks for your replies this will help with my project, a number of these helmets are post war repaints in the wrong colours with poor quality cheap decals only the M42 in the top left has the correct colour.
