Can anyone tell me what it says on the 2 "T piece" filler covers please ( centre of shot) , I can't quite make it out, is it just coolant? 8)

A picture of the coolant cover.FV no too Joy
Also wondered what your going to do with track horns. Pictures show Centurion horns very similar to Chieftain in height, but the Chieftain models horns are bigger/taller and will damage the return rollers as reported. Are you going to clip them?

Happy New Year. Filler on right side (looking towards vehicle front) is Coolant, left side is Hydraulic. Inscriptions on the other sides of the filler caps are the part numbers.

I happened to be at Bovington on Monday and measured the horns on the tracks of the Chieftain in the Tank Story hall. This is a later mark, but I don't know if the horns differed between marks.

DSCF2304a.jpg

It looks to be about 108mm tall, so should be 18mm on the kit.

Thanks gentlemen, ref the tracks let's see what the boss says first.

A bit more done and I have finally made a start on the engine deck vents. There's hundreds of individual louvers, well there are a lot. 8)

These vents are tricky but worth the effort. The two rear centre vent frames need some drop in fixings of some kind , anyone have those details please? 8)

I want the vent s to be functional so the brass handles are awaiting the brass tube to make them so, these will be soldered to the frame.

You have to keep the external width of each vent as narrow as you dare as there's not enough room for them to open without catching each other. If your not worried about the vents being tight you can just lift the two inner ones out and then open the outers.

A tip, use a m3 washer under each deck hinge to lift the whole assembly, this then allows the piece to sit correctly. Fill the gap with the milliput weld bead.

You will need to adjust the louver slots with a flat nose pair of pliers to make the unit as narrow as possible, dress the side and the louver slats back flush or it will contact the side of the inner vent.

Great detailing Phil. Were the boxes red oxide painted? I'm not doubting you, I've just not seen it.

Yes they were, except that in 4RTR the front left triangle bin was painted white and was our larder. I don’t remember the interior of the lids being painted but may be wrong about that.
