Re: Chieftain Stuff
As for the model Chieftain nothing is what it seems too. Look at the prototype picture from the open day.
The coms box at the back of the looks slightly out of place and has what looks like the outline of a vision block on it.
Turn the crop round 90', and it looks like a vision block blank ready for machining.
The original box seems larger and usually has a frame mounted round it, what that's for not quite sure.? Cable wrap?

Re: Chieftain Stuff
Hi All,
Once I have the 4D M240's will be able to check the fit of my existing parts. All being well we will be able to offer GPMGs with little or no modification to these parts.
Best regards
Dave

Re: Chieftain Stuff
Hi All,
First of the 4D M240's arrived today and after about 15 minutes with a scalpel and needle file the picatinny rail is gone, the stock fixing block has been removed and our back plate slotted in. The barrel was cut off and replaced with our metal one. It may not be quite as sharp as the Dragon GPMG but we have plenty inbound and they should be a very cost effective option even with our parts added.
Best regards
Dave

Re: Chieftain Stuff
Just realised I have been a a little over zealous with the scalpel and should have left a bit more between the piston tube and the barrel, out with the plasticard tomorrow to add it back in.................................

Re: Chieftain Stuff
The TTB, Tank Telephone Box, did have a channel around it. I presume for an elasticated cover when wading to keep it waterproof. John Heaps can maybe confirm.John Clarke wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 8:41 pmThe original box seems larger and usually has a frame mounted round it, what that's for not quite sure.? Cable wrap?

Hi Mark,
Seems plausible, but the ring doesn't appear to sealed to the hull itself and it's missing from a lot of vehicles.
There's a few bits and bobs dotted around the hull.
I need a "dummy's" guide app-ly named "Wot's that bit do?"

Re: Chieftain Stuff
I did one of those for Kian and Mark at the outset (not that "dummy" is at all appropriate in their case, he said hastily). I'll see if I can find it when Apple deign to let me have my Mac Back..John Clarke wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 12:10 pm

Re: Chieftain Stuff
Hi All,
First box of M240's arrived today. The ammo boxes are nearer 50 cal size but we have already established the 240 converts with reasonable ease to a passable GPMG with our barrel etc. Once we have the gun mount done we should be able to supply 4D bodies and our GPMG bits to all those that want them.
Best regards
Dave

Re: Chieftain Stuff
I would suggest the best person to send the "Wot's that bit do?" to, is John Heaps. He crewed them as driver, loader and gunner at various times and not neccessarily in that order. If he can not supply an answer, then it may be a bit that REME used, and I may be able to provide an answer or make a good guess. However my job was making sure that the "electrickery" workedJohn Clarke wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 12:10 pmHi Mark,

Looking good, there'll make great detailing parts.
In that colour and those chiseled good looks, Mr White looks like a Star Ship trooper.
That BV needs mounting on a nice wooden plinth.

Re: Chieftain Stuff
Hi All,
OEP 220/OMD 80 Oil drum ready to mould. I have emailed Peddinghuas about a decal set for either the old style plain white letter markings or a current version all white label. Also inquired about possibility of BV decals and decals for the BCF extinguisher once I get it done.
Best regards
Dave

Re: Chieftain Stuff
Dave, great stuff. I owe you the artwork for the BCF extinguisher. On its way now I've got a Mac back. For the oil drum, old style for preference please. More appropriate for a Mk 5 Chieftain.
