Colleagues
As I am new to this painting stuff I just wanted advice on varnishing my Tiger1. Do you apply the varnish on the base coat first then add the weathering effect or do you apply the 3 tone camo then varnish and then weather, also what varnishing product do you use?
Many Thanks Allan
Varnishing

Re: Varnishing
Allan, short answer is read the Knowledge Base here;

The principle is to use a medium for weathering which is different to the base coat and use a varnish to act as a barrier between them eg acrylic base coat with enamel and/or oils for weathering. The weathering can then be adjusted without damaging the base coat. In your case, the base coat would include all three camouflage colours.
It's important for the weathering to get a varnish with a semi-matte finish. Gloss makes it hard for the weathering to adhere and with fully matt, it's difficult to get the weathering to feather and blend. Until recently, the product of choice in UK was Citadel Purity Seal by Games Workshop. Although it's still obtainable, it's been replaced by this:

It's quick drying, odourless and very robust.
