Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
I've tried my hand at cast texturing,as per usual I needed to get some paint on it to see how it looked.

I know it's shallow and superficial but I'm liking this Mr Surfacer 500.

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
I've done a bit on the Cupola, cast texturing ad weld seams, which I put up on another post.
I also put some weld seams on the bottom of the Hull so it will be ready for primer and paint.Ive had some Acrylic paint mixed by the local paint shop.1 litre and 1 litre of thinners,£21.

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
Seems you are starting to get the hang of Milliput weld seams.
I did not bother with the weld seams in areas that would be eventually covered with zimmerrit.

I stole your idea with the cake icing thing Vince.I was on a roll so just went sailing past the point where I'll Zimmerite without even noticing.

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
More painting,I did the weld seams on the bottom of the Hull so it was ready for paint.I had some Dunkelgelb made up in a 1 ltr tin with 1 ltr of thinners so I've got 2 litres which should be enough. The bloke who mixed it went off the code rather than my sample and it's a bit greener. No matter I'll just flash over the wheels I've already painted.Whilst I was at the paint shop I bought some more Etch primer which is like a 2 pack. Its a normal primer but you add the acid to make it an etch.
I've also made the exhaust stacks up and detailed them to look rusty and soot stained,Not mega happy with them because I only had a light rust wash,so I need a light rust paint to give a new rust runs on them.Ive also given them a bit of texture so the rust is quite rough and more realistic.

Love those stacks! How did you do them and what paints, techniques did you use?

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
Hi Allen,I started by stippling Vallejo plastic putty, then I etched them,I'm not sure if they needed etching but I did it anyway.I then put a solid coat of Burnt Umber and misted Mahogany over it.I tried some light rust wash but it didn't take very well. The final part was I listed Matt Black on the exhaust exit to simulate soot.
The paint I use is mainly Vallejo,no particular reason apart from it seems to offer the colours I think I'll need.I use an Iwata Eclipse Airbrush running around 20 psi
Good luck with it.
Regards Glen

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
I've been painting the Hull today.
Glen.
I've done the inside White,White isn't a clever colour to learn how to setup a new spray gun. There are a couple of small runs but it isn't bad.
I can start looking at putting the torsion bars and wheels on next.Ive only got around 25 track links put together at the moment so I'd better get my scares on.Glen.

To my inexperienced eye, those exhaust stacks look awesome Glen. Wish I could do that.

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
Thank you Vince, fair praise indeed coming from you with your skills.I always make sure I can go back to original before I have a go at something.
I'm sure you will soon be up to speed once you start using an airbrush.

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
I put a couple of wheels on and a short length of track,I'm hoping to have the thing running around under it's own power within the next couple of weeks.
It's not as easy as you think,I have been juggling suspension arms around because not all of them seem to go fully in.Also the front sprocket seems to have a bit of resistance and makes a rubbing noise for around 20 deg of it's rotation.Ill get all the road wheels in place then take the front sprocket off again to see if I can see anything.I haven't done the other side yet so I'll do that and see how that sounds.
With only 25 track links on I get the feeling that this is getting to heavy to move around on my own.

Re: Novice Late Tiger Build.
With all the parts painted, any rubbing should leave witness marks on the paint which should help isolate the problem. Also on that side of the tank, the inner sprocket teeth are very close to the front swing arm.
