Novice Late Tiger Build.

Hi Allan,I downloaded it off the net.I just typed in" Tiger Tank 222 Normandy."Good luck with yours,you'll need to be getting it into you Garage sooner rather than later I think.These things seem to get heavy real quick.Untill then you can prep other work just to keep yourself busy.

Post a build thread,it's always interesting to see how other people go about building theirs.Mine is No 18.

The mind is certainly willing,I'm just hoping the flesh ain't weak I've got 2 options for simulated weld seams,the cake icer and the 3d fabric stuff.Im also hoping to try my hand at simulating a cast texture.


I'm still waiting on my No2 Zimmerite tools from Fields of Armour plus some other toys I'll keep a secret for now.Its really nice working on this thing I'm getting in trouble with my wife for spending too much time in the Shed,not sure if that's A good thing or not.

I know it's a little early to ask but "what is the spec on the lift pins on the Exhaust Armour and also is it obvious where they mount"?

I'm still painting wheels at the moment so nothing much else going on.

I did manage to get out on the chopper on Wed,I also wore the silly crash helmet.Strange really but amount of people blowing their horns and waving kind of surprised me.Just as I was about to put the bike to bed I started it to ride it into the Shed and the starter stayed engaged.I suspect iv got a wire come off the Starter relay.Big job to find out but no other options.

Sorry I tried to edit it and it's all gone to cock.

I've been putting the false locking tabs on the outside wheels today,what a job that is especially if you bend them up like they are supposed to be.

Also the child in me couldn't wait to see some colour on the wheels.Spraying the grey was fitting a bit monotonous.The paint went on very nice but once dried it looked quite green.I thought it may be because I sprayed it over Grey but I also sprayed a suspension arm which has Red Oxide on it.....it still looked greenish.I did a second coat and it didn't make any difference.

It is what it is I suppose,it's got the right paint code.I suspect once the other Camo colours on it will tone it down.

I don't want to open Pandora's box but I think for a 1944 Tiger it should look greenish.

It is a can of worms Vince but it looks close enough to the pic of Tiger 222 for me,its subjective anyway.It is Ral 7028 Dunkelgelb so that's going to have to do.

Yes Glen, it's not perfect but I am happy with it. I took the book to a local car paint specialist and using his RAL paint strips I chose a matt RAL 1020. This was the best solution for me in my circumstance.

The secret is out. Some toys have arrived off Dave at Armorpax.First impressions is they are very nice.

I've also got Cupola inserts although I'm not sure if I need them.The weld detail is exquisite and once painted and weathered(I hope) will look very good.

That's nice. I was thinking of getting the two circular hatches also. Do you think that they are a direct replacement to the Armortek hatches? What I mean is, can you fit them to the tank without any modifications?

As far as I am aware they are a direct replacement Vince,when I spoke to Dave I did tell him what they were for.ive offered them up to to top deck and I can't see any reason why they wouldn't fit.He gave me the option of an early or late loaders hatch,I went for the late for obvious reasons.

They need a little tidying up and fettling but having seen your work I can't see you having any problems.

I like the hatches, one question though? How do thy attach to the hinge bracket?

Those hatches were standard on my 2010 mid tiger, so they will likely fit the hole still. Not sure about the hinges, though. You may want to use the Armortek hinges, since the Armorpax ones are cast in white metal and will break. I made new ones out of brass and screwed and tapped the hatches.

The Armorpax hinges appear to glue on but I've only had a quick look and a play with the loader hatch.There doesn't seem any reason you can't use the Armourtek hinges and drill the hatches then countersunk the screws.

The smart batteries are crazy expensive compared to other options.

Mine was about half of the cost since I found it on eBay.
