Adam's Panzer III build

And so it begins!

Shipping was ridiculously fast as I received my kit yesterday and had ordered it middle of last week. Hopefully I can get it home tomorrow (it's at my office right now) and start sorting this weekend. I'm going to try to take photos and post updates regularly for feedback.

Hmmm, it’s been a while since I used photobucket. Is there a way to post without the photobucket information showing on my photos?

Edit: I ended up using Imgur instead to get rid of the watermark

Despite MY mistakes and 'problems' I know I have.

So I'm going to start priming this weekend going with a recommended cleaner/conditioner and epoxy primer recommended by a local auto supply place near were I live. I plan on a very light and thin coating or a couple of super thin coatings using my spray gun. We'll see how things turn out.

A question about Loctite products. I notice people use various different types and wondered why. I've seen some using the red on fasteners, which required major effort to separate, rather than the blue and I was curious about the reasoning. I was considering using blue for fasteners and the 620 for sleeves and such. What are some thoughts?

I think it comes down to personal build technique. There is no right or wrong technique. Obviously you want to put the red stuff where it’s indicated on the manual to do so. Otherwise, yes the blue stuff is more appropriate for the fasteners especially if you have to back track! My guess is the more experienced builders won’t need to undo anything and go with the red stuff on more fasteners.

Blue should be fine for the majority of fasteners. I have been building and flying radio control helicopters for many years now, and all the fittings are blue threadlocked. As you can imagine there is a lot of vibration and g forces involved when flying and I have never had a fitting come loose ever. And when the inevitable crash occurs they are easy to remove.

Decided to start seeing how things go together with some rough fitting tonight. Tomorrow I organize bags a bit better and get an organizer for all the nuts and bolts. I may start cleaning the aluminum and preparing for a primer coat.

So this is an effect of the aluminum conditioner prior to painting. Apparently it’s called a chrome conversion coating. Interesting.

So I've made a bit of progress. Luckily we've had two amazing days in a row so I've been able to work outside cleaning, prepping and painting. Plus I have most of today to continue to tinker.

Working on Road Wheel Assemblies

Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on the road wheel assemblies and the nut that goes through the side hull and suspension bar then into the suspension shaft is supposed to be an M6x25 CSK (per the manual). I looked in the parts list and I was supplied 12 M6x30s so I have to assume that is what they are for. But when I try to thread it all the way it bottoms out in the suspension shaft so the side hull does not bolt very tightly to the suspension bar. Are these supposed to be modified/shortened or something? I have to assume someone else has run into this. I suppose I could go to Fastenal and order some M6x25s if absolutely necessary.
