.. and now shipping !!!

Manufactured under license from Rolls Royce Motor Cars Limited

After a long gestation period, we managed to get a licensing agreement in place with Rolls-Royce! This is the first time that Armortek has produced a kit under licence ... and to start with a company known quite literally for the "Rolls-Royce" of quality is something we are very proud about.

The licensing agreement not only gives us the right to use the names "Rolls-Royce" and Silver Ghost", but also allows us to put the RR symbol on some of the kit components (as was the case on the real model) and to provide the Spirit of Ecstasy with the Chassis kit.

Shipping of the Rolls-Royce Armoured car started on Monday 16th and shipping of the Chassis kits will be starting today.

Look forward to seeing the build threads !

Congratulations, Kian and Monique, the effort you’ve had to put into this deserves a moment for celebration. There was a risk of not getting the licence, which makes your early commitment to the models all the more brave and innovative. As you say, looking forward to seeing the models appear on the Forum and at shows. Talking of which, Tiger Day at Bovington is only a week or so away. First chance to see the Spirit of Ecstasy in the flesh.

Not sure if the kit includes an enamel radiator badge... but I am currently investigating some 'tie tack' enamel badges to find out what has the correct dimensions for a 1/6th scale cloisonne red badge. There are a lot of them on eBay, but either have enamel in the wrong places (reverse image) or seem too big or small.

This link shows the correct pattern, though this piece should not have holes in the corners! Drilled to mount to a plaque, I assume. Also, the US Reg. Pat Office did not come until 1921 when RR opened its Springfield plant.

For those interested in history, there is a myth that the badge was changed from Red to Black when Henry Royce died. Like many things RR... that is a complete myth. Royce ordered the change himself, a few months before he passed. He felt that the red badge clashed with some of the more colorful and vivid paint schemes that were coming into vogue in the 1930's. And that a black badge would pretty much 'go with anything.' The letter ordering the change is in the archive at The Hunt House in Paulerspury... a treasure trove of information for those building a chassis or an armoured car. Col. Eric Barrass (former Executive director of RREC) wrote a fantastic book on the armoured cars.

Anyway... I have some pins on order and will do a comparison and try and let folks know which is closest to making a nice badge to put on the radiator.

Cheers,

RPR

P.S. The radiator IS modeled on (and proportioned after) the Parthenon in Greece. Royce thought it was the most pleasing shape. That is not a myth!
