In At The Deep End?

Well, it seems my Elephant arrives today. Gulp!

I have spread straw on the floor and have a large bucket on hand

Enough of frivolity, whilst I have been building plastics and resins for many, many years, I only have a Pak40 (85% complete) Armourtek kit under my belt. So, this really is 'in at the deep end' for me. Unlike Steve's Elephant 'production line' this will be a long term project for me.

I will be referring back to this forum on a regular basis to pick up tips, tricks and build updates, so I'd appreciate you folks continuing to post this type of info, I'm sure it will help a novice like me.

I'm off now for a period of quiet contemplation.................

I doubt the real build will start until next year, we having work done on the house and having a heavy tank destroyer lying around is probably not helpful to the workmen?

I'll content myself with cleaning up and test fitting components for the time being. Anyway, with Christmas coming up, its time to be huddled around a single malt in front of the fire, not standing by a cold workbench.

We all had to start somewhere and, believe me, if I can do it, anyone can !

The two essential tasks at the beginning are (a) to check all the boxes to make sure everything is there, and (b) sit down and carefully read the instructions. Something you can do with that Single Malt ! (although I personally prefer Armagnac ). And then you might want to do a bit of research and choose an actual vehicle to replicate, unless you're just going to build 'straight out of the box'. Recreating a vehicle that actually existed is not essential, but it does add another dimension to the whole project.

So there's plenty to do until you actually get the tools out. But the main thing is to enjoy the process ! These things bring the word 'hobby' to a whole new level ......

It's really good to know that there is help out there when needed.

Trouble with the Elephant is that unlike Tiger, Panther, StuG et al there is quite a limited availability of research material. Is there any reference material available out there that you have found useful?
