New Forum Suggestion

Post by Adrian Harris »

Well done on the upgrade - it will be fun to see how things have changed in day-to-day usage.

My first suggestion - Split the Kompact Kit section down by model, as per the Armortek section.

It seems that files with a jpg extension are still not allowed as attachments to PMs.

I'm not sure you can actually attach any file type to a PM.

Thanks for the feedback Adrian.
Will look into splitting the Kompact Kit posts by model - makes sense, just a lot of work.

On the issue of attachments in PMs - I cant see use cases that make sense to me. E-mail would be a better solution and not open the forum to abuse.

Keep the feedback coming !

Email only works if you know the email address of the other person. Otherwise you have to send a PM to ask for the email address

In my user info box on the right hand side it says "New posts [1]", even when I've read everything. It stays after I've clicked on "Mark forums read" as well.

If I click on the "Quick links" option of "New posts" it brings me to this thread. If I click on "Unread posts" is says "No suitable matches were found".

What constitutes a "New post" ? It doesn't appear to be since the last visit as nothing has changed.

One style issue I've noticed - I read the forum using Firefox and on the display of threads with more than one page is showing the page markers under the date of the last message:

Unfortunately the New Post count only refreshes when you log back in, but maybe someone has found a solution for that. Will need to check.

The other issue on the style seems to happen in Chrome and Safari as well, so need to get that fixed. Thanks for highlighting it.

I really like the new look and funcionality.

Previously it was the last posts that were displayed. Now it is the last topics that were active that are displayed, so less chance to miss something because newer posts have caused some to drop off the list.

I, too, like the list of latest topics rather than latest posts, as it helps to focus on topics of interest should people change the individual post title.

However, the link takes you to the first page of a topic. Could it default to the last (latest) page, to save scrolling through the entire history ?

Good work, though ! Practical without being too radical.

All the best,

Much better! Thanks.

Will there be an update on etiquette? I'd quite like to go back to short "well done" comments and more possibly off topic stuff.

Cheers

Thanks for the positive feedback.
Chris - agree it is annoying to scroll through the whole topic to get to the end .. will check what the fix for that is.
Sam - I want to give it a couple of weeks to see how things work before the rules of the forum are updated. I like Adrian's suggestion of an off-topic area, but it would need moderation.

I can't work out how to post photos on this version of the Forum. The previous version made it very easy, but I can't see how to now, please advise!

When I click on a thread in the "New items" area on the right, I am taken to the first post and not the last post on that thread.
I preferred the old system that sent me to the last post as I have already read the preceding posts.

Steve

Hi John
I have done that, the problem is that when you do that, this appears Image. Then what, there are no instructions as to how to proceed, there is no menu to follow. Plus postimage is not as straightforward as it seems, it doesn't produce a link that marries up with this system. What I have done before does not appear to work now. This is the problem with IT, people change the things without working out that revised instructions need to be given, it is all so familiar, that they don't realise it is not obvious to other people. So I am at a loss!

Steve, you can drag and drop your image onto the box in which you write your text. You will then see below a link to the photo. If you do nothing, images will appear at the end of the post when you click submit. If you want the images to appear in the text, Click on where you want the next one and then click on "Add inline".

I think Steve is trying to link to a file already uploaded to Postimage, rather than adding a local files as an attachment.
