Re: To much smoke
As I said, the Maybach had problems and smoked accordingly , so it's the old Tigers and panthers that I'm concentrating on for now, putting aside terminal engine smoking (which could be implemented in war gaming with a similar unit to the Tamiya battle system but using Armortek tanks, thats a good subject for another day) i feel we need to reproduce all be it a theatrical highly visible smoke effect which needs to be exaggerated, or you might not see it in differing weather conditions or in VT work.
I suppose the more control we have over the system the better, that could be programable, or I would prefer linked to our existing systems and so keep it simple ...Phil

Re: To much smoke
Just as well you are not modelling the T34, the full sized ones I have seen make their own black smoke screen!

Re: To much smoke
I agree, the smoke should replicate the engine and vehicle as it was then.
I cannot speak for the Maybach, but can for the more modern british armoured vehicles.
On one exercise, the squadron of tanks I was attached to were in a blocking position. 33A ( CVR(T) Spartan ) 14B ( CVR(T) Samaritan ) and us on 24C ( CRARRV )were tasked as enemy and to probe the line. When spotted, withdraw to the start line and then have another go.
3 hours into that phase of the exercise and we were asked over the radio if we had been tasked for a recovery job elsewhere. 33A & 14B had been spotted multiple times and sent back, we hadn´t.
I confirmed we were still in the exercise and had not been tasked elsewhere. I was then asked to send the grid co-ordinates of where I thought I was as I must be lost. After sending that info, I was told over the radio that I must be well & truly lost as 0D ( the tank of the Sqn Second in Command ) was at that location.
My answer was that we were parked up 30 meters behind him and had been there for the last hour. We had taken a tank sized tracked recovery vehicle through a 100 meter gap between tanks that were on the look-out for us. We could not have done that if we were belching out exhaust smoke.

Re: To much smoke
Now if you were in a Chieftain Mark you would have been spotted long ago, I would very much like Armortek to produce a Chieftain and a Chally for that matter, that crappy BL horizontally apposed multi fuel two stroke gave the vehicles position away what ever fuel it was burning. Now I could make a smoker for that lump!

Hi Phil,
What was the saying ? Chieftain, the best battle tank in the world as long as it broke down in a good fire position.
Chally 1 & 2, completly different beasts.

Re: To much smoke
The new prototype blower , its a bit tidier than the first unit, I hope to be able to offer the smokers for sale if theres enough interest, although its not like a production run so dont want or need to sell many. It would be nice to perfect the system and see it out there doing its job.
I have ordered the elements and metal enclosures from the net, so as soon as they arrive off I go.

- To get the volume of air from a fan it has to be powerful, that 80mm opening will be forced into a smaller port and into the smoker box and I suppose increase in pressure as it does so, I think I will need to increase the diameter of the outlet a tad, now when Adrian had a go at this all the fluid was blown out the exhaust but I have not had that problem, maybe because I keep the level of fluid low along with a baffle plate.
