Tiger 1 build, mid 2010 no. 27

Hi all

After my research I have started my Tiger build in due course, I plan to take my time and do it right. Well I will be, after 5 days of fitting and adjusting I finally have the hull assembled.

I must say a big thanks to all the peeps who have gone before me as all your advice and pointers on this forum have been a huge help. Plus some of the builds are spectacular.

Anyways I will post some photos in due course when things start to get interesting.

Afternoon all

Been busy today on the Tiger mainly doing welds which was quite enjoyable. I also modified the armour collar on the final drive so it fit better, plus my pannier details are fitted.

Hope to complete this side over the weekend then start on the reverse side. Quick question for the experts out there, is weld detail needed on the floor to the hull side?

It's strangely satisfying producing all those welds init David, and they become structural to a certain extent once dry and hard, very nice keep it up. regards Phil.

Morning David,

Its looking good so far. As Phil aptly said, putting welds in those hidden areas is purely a personal thing. I didn't put any across the seem of the pannier floor, and this was because it would never be normal seen. Unless like some ex gunners you roll it over

Just a tip for the weld between the pannier side and the glacis plate. I used a Dremel with a small cutting disc to make a groove so I could get the weld flatter, and it helps to give the putty something to key to.

So been busy building away and am onto the suspension, I will post some photos soon.

Quick question to you all, I decided to look at some of the sub assemblies and was making a start on the Coppola at my bench indoors (horrible weather) I noticed the arm is drilled out for the hatch handle but cannot find one in the kit. Does it come with one as standard?

Hi again all

Some photo updates included. I have now painted the hull in dunklegelb, suspension is well under way, half the axles pinned and flats ground. Just need to make a jig to set the angles then into paint. Have also started on the Copula making my own hatch handle, added some texturing and making some backs for the vision ports.

Morning all

Been slow going of late but now have the suspension fitted to the drivers side. I am very happy with the results and now ready to start the opposite side.

The eagle eyed among you will notice that I need to invest in a mobile table of some sort as my old desk in the garage is going to become very obsolete soon!

Any pointers appreciated.

A lot do use a hydraulic lifting table to work on but I prefer a heavy duty roll about workbench. Bigger top area and nothing sticking out at the bottom. I put a rubber mat on top of mine and fitted 4 swivel casters instead of the standard two swivel and two fixed to make it more maneuverable in tight spaces.

The workbench is really heavy but so solid. Probably weighs more than the completed tank will do. Like it as it can be spun round in it's own length.

Painted the roadwheels last night. Now to weather them. Why does it seem like there's a hundred wheels to do?

Hello John, that's a cracking bench....I'm making do with an old kitchen cabinet, I have reinforced it, no wheels ....now that's what I call YELLOW Lovely build...Mick
