Tiger1 Firing Trials By Magpiespyro

Post by Phil Woollard »

This video shows some of the firing trials that we conducted using the Armortek Tiger1 which led to the manufacture of the 12g firing device.
The second Tiger 1 firing has never been shown before as a video.

Wow, very nice feature, but may I say that I miss a little recoil.......?

In my tanks I implemented that recoil, but here I miss exactly your kind of muzzle fire
kind regards
Gerhard

Yes recoil ! That's a can of worms. Mechanical recoil with a flash is easy, you can get all that from Armortek but sadly the 12 gauge firing device no longer, but there are still many out there being used, we as in Magpiespyro have of course one or two.
You need hydraulic recoil for realism with return springs to dissipate the force and so return the cannon, the vehicles mass/suspension soaks up a high percentage also, that too is replicated mechanically with motor kick and looks very cool.
We have conducted many experiments with cannon charges even sending the 88mm barrel down range after using an over size load causing metal components to fail, it was found 50 mtrs away.
Also mixing the mechanical/igniferous methods but the timing is tricky! E=MC2 and stripped threads and all that.
We will endeavour to post a film of a system that I have been working on at some point but for now I will use editing trickery to achieve the desired effect, regards festive Phil.

Well, I know the problems having to move a heavy firing unit with fast recoil. Perhaps you should fire a real bullet; then the recoil comes from alone.........?

Here in Germany we don't have any problems with pyrotechnics in toys! Only a gentle try in that direction would cause a middle firestorm in the authorities; therefore we hold our fingers away! Our friends in Switzerland however may even use armed weapons in model tanks, as far as I know.......
kind regards
Gerhard

Not a huge charge but enough to fracture track links

The chances are the crew would have carried on forward after the mine strike, the track would have separated and run off the sprocket rendering the vehicle immobile.
