Sound Module not working.
Sound Module not working.
Hello All,
I'm completing the final stages of my 251 and the Sound module is not working. I have the two wires from the Motion pack esc to the sound module wired correctly, and the two speaker wires are correct. When i power up the model the speaker powers up but no sound at all. Is there more jumpers that come from the Motion pack esc to the sound module? When i got the Sound module, i didn't get any instructions with it, just a Sound module and speaker. I just assumed it was plug and play and would just work. Is there more that i have to do?
I'm also having trouble with the smoker, fans on, heating element is hot, 10cc baby oil in the tank, no smoke. Let it heat up, ran the model for 5 minutes still no smoke. So' i dunno, thought it would just work. lol Thanks, for your advice, Tim

Re: Sound Module not working.
Unfortunately, there are a few steps to getting the Audio Module configured and ready for use.
You'll need to have the half-track up on blocks, so that the tracks can turn without it moving and you'll need to remove the lid from the Audio Module.
According to the manual, you should have connections from the receiver going to ports 1 and 6 on the Audio Module. Port 3 should then go on to the Speed Controller.
Port 6 is the control channel and needs to be on the same channel on the receiver as the switch is configured on the transmitter.
On a Spektrum DX7 transmitter, Switch B is a three position switch, which is needed to control the sounds.
If you assign AUX1 to channel 7 on the receiver, and then also assign Switch B to AUX1 on the transmitter, you need to wire port 7 on the receiver to port 6 on the Audio Module.
Now you need to configure the Benedini card. The programming button is a small black switch next to the red connector at the end of the small daughter board.
1) Power on transmitter and receiver.
2) Leave the throttle stick and control switch in their central positions.
3) Press the programing button on the TBS Mini until you hear a beep/squeak.
4) Move throttle stick to your desired acceleration point operate the switch from the central position to the rear position and back to the centre. A short burst of the acceleration sound should be played.
5) Move the throttle stick to full speed position and operate the control switch from the central position to the rear and back again. A short burst of the full speed sound should be played.
6) You should then here a sequence of beeps/squeaks to show the programming is complete.

Re: Sound Module not working.
When the fan is running on the smoker, can you feel the air flow coming out of the exhaust tube ?
Can you take a picture of how you have it built and wired up ?

Re: Sound Module not working.
Wow' i didn't know all that, then again, i didn't get any programming instructions either. I will have to read everything you just wrote, and go from there. As for the smoker, no the fan isn't really blowing. So'i'll need to go over the wiring and pull out my meter.I just took some pictures with my phone, but couldn't upload them to this site. I'll try again with pics when i get a camera. Thank you for your reply, very interesting what you just stated. I'm using a Spektrum DX6 for the controller, but sounds like i'll need to go out and get channel jumpers. Thank you, Tim

channel jumpers
The TBS Mini can be fiddly to set up but you only need to do it once, until you change transmitter or receiver.
The full TBS Mini manual is available to download here:
http://benedini.de/TBSMini_13_E.pdf
Most of it is redundant due to the way the TBS Mini has been incorporated into the Audio Module but the setup instructions are still relevant.

Re: Sound Module not working.
Hello Tim, I have built the 251. You will need at least three radio 'leads' or cables to connect from the Circuit Board to the Radio Receiver and Audio Module. The programme button on my TBS 5 Mini, is a small 'brown' push button on the left hand side of the Mini board.
On my Spektrun DX6, I have used the left hand Tx stick to control the steering. The right hand Tx stick controls the motion, forward and reverse. I also control the audio sounds on the right hand Tx stick....
Once you have the radio leads in the correct order, follow Adrians set-up advice

Hi all,
If you need any more info let me know as I have set up three of these modules on the 251 now.

Re: Sound Module not working.
One thing I found slightly confusing in the Benedini instructions for the TSB mini is the sound setting procedure for the 3 position switch. Thomas refers to flicking the switch but does not say in which direction. Do you flick it in the sound selection direction or the sound activation direction? Have done this once but needless to say I cant remember what I did ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: Sound Module not working.
I may be wrong but I don't think it matters, as the Benedini just registers the change in the position.

Re: Sound Module not working.
Thanks guys for your replies, it has taken me some time to get back to you's. I have actually got the sound to work once i assigned the B switch to Aux1 and then port 6 on the sound module. It starts up and idles, when i flick the switch back and forth i get either a horn beep or a machine gun firing (which is cool) What i don't have is engine revving to the speed of the vehicle. I still need to put a jumper from the esc to the sound module, but i'm unsure where to plug it into the esc (which port?) and for the third jumper, again unsure which ports. So' i'm almost there. I'd like to assign the machine gun and horn to different switches, which isn't a problem to do on my radio, just unsure how it needs to be tapped off the receiver to sound module, if it's possible? Adrian your instructions are a big help. Thank you, Tim
Re: Sound Module not working.
Oh i should add, on my DX6 i'm using right stick for both forward/reverse left/right operation(like a tank). Not sure if this is wise, but hell, it sure drives nice. lol Left stick hasn't been assigned to anything as of yet. B switch is the only switch being used as of now, for sound. Just adding how i'm operating. Tim

> I'd like to assign the machine gun and horn to different switches
I don't think this is possible with the standard Benedini sound system as it only "listens" to one receiver channel, and the switches on the radio are linked to different channels.
It would be possible electronically by rewiring the switches inside the transmitter, so that they all act on the same channel, but that would need quite major surgery and would invalidate your warranty.
