Help Please - Sound System
Dear all
Is anyone able to confirm, please, the number of loud "clicks" (more like clunks) I should hear when I power on my Cent?
The sound module should be in toggle switch mode.
I get 6 loud clicks when switching on the tank power,
Red led shows power on amplifier module.
All motion controls are operational but I'm not getting any sound effects.
Would appreciate any wisdom if possible please
Many thanks
Kevin

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Toggle switch mode is three clicks, but it can sound like six.
Encoder mode is one click but can sound like two.
Is this something that used to work and has stopped or are you setting it up from scratch ?
Adrian.

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Hi Adrian.
Yes this is something that used to work but now doesn't. Not sure what I've done that I can undo as that would seem an obvious solution.
Silly question perhaps..... The single brown lead from your smoker fan control isn't hooked to the amplifier as I'm nervous about using the smoker since I had my fire. There is no power supplied to the smoker at all just now. Can this interrupt the sounds?

Re: Help Please - Sound System
At one time, one of my Benedini's soundcards went berserk due to a power glitch on the battery lead (loose contact that caused on/off pulsing)
Aftervfixing the lead, readjustment of the Sound Module did the trick
Benedini manuals on how to do that can be found here

Re: Help Please - Sound System
No, the sound system should work completely independently of the smoker and my fan module.
The reset on the Benedini TBS5 is very simple for toggle switch mode. You just need to have the transmitter switched on and then press the "Learn" button on the TBS5. That stores the default transmitter values and should then play a snippet of each sound in turn. Once it has done that, it should be ready to go.
Are you sure the control connection on the sound system is going to the right channel on the transmitter ? Can you check it with a servo, to make sure the servo moves when you operate the switch on the transmitter ?
Also, the sound system will only work if the track connections are attached to the receiver, it won't work with just the control connection attached. BTDT

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Adrian, Maarten, thanks for your help so far.
Sadly I'm still drawing a blank
For ease of access, turret is off so turret sub loom isn't connected. Presume that makes no odds.
With cover off the amplifier, I can now confirm that my 6 clunks are in fact accompanied by 3 flashes of the internal green LED. I am confident that the unit is in toggle mode.
I am using Aux 2 3 position switch on my DX8 Tx and the amplifier is connected to Aux 2 on the AR8000 Rx.
With model and Tx on, pressing the programming/learn button on the sound module does nothing.....no clicks, no green LED and no list of sounds.
As previously advised, all tank motion controls are seemingly working ok.
I wondered if perhaps I had accidentally changed parameter 2 on the sound module and turned off the speakers? However I have no recollection of playing with that parameter, besides which would that not also mean I wouldn't hear the clunks on power up?
I'm starting to wonder if perhaps I still have a small short or damaged cable somewhere after the onboard fire. If that's the case then I'm looking for a complete replacement set of cables.....

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Have you tried checking the cable with a multimeter/voltmeter?

Can you check whether a servo in the Aux2 position of the receiver move when you operate the switch ?
Adrian.

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Hi Adrian. Yes a servo plugged into Rx Aux2 responds to the toggle switch.
When pressing the "learn" button on the amplifier module, is that literally press and release or hold until it does something? Odd that I can't seem to get any reaction when pressing the button and yet it works to reprogram toggle switch mode (i.e. Press once, get a single green flash, then press 3 times, get 3 green flashes).

Ps: Maarten, the lead between Rx and amp module is good. Checked with circuit tester.

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Hi Kevin,
I have had that situation before on a tank I was repairing. You can go in to program mode but no sample sounds, it resulted in having to return the TBS5 to Thomas at Benedini for repair.
Dennis.

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Thanks Dennis. From one or two other posts I was beginning to suspect that may be the case. Shame as about to display at our local "county show" with our model engineering club. Looks like it may have to be a static display this year...... Or mute at least!

Re: Help Please - Sound System
Just to cover all the bases...
When you want to change the settings on the TBS5, you hold the button in whilst powering up but when you teach it with the sounds for both toggle switch and encoder modes, you press the button once everything has powered up and initialised.

Hi Kevin
I dont want to throw a spanner in the works here, but this seems
more like an amplifier problem than a sound card problem.

Re: Help Please - Sound System
The amp plays the three clacks at power up, so it looks like sounds can be played.
Looking at the original posting, this is for a Cent, so are we talking about a TBS5 or a TBS Mini ?
Adrian.
