Mud guard rivets

Guys
What tool is required for the installation of the forward mud guard hinged extension pieces, the instructions say install with 2mm rivets, is there such a thing as a rivet gun the can take the 2mm rivets, or are they put in place by hammer and punch??? Best way to fit them please.

Simon, I used 2.5mm slot head screws instead of the rivets.

I had thought about screws, but I'm trying to stay as near to the plan as possible, the rivets kinda make it look a little better if there done in a good manner, it's just that I don't really want to be beating the rivets with a hammer if avoidable.
Was hoping there's some small rivet gun or tool on the market that can take the 2.5mm rivets.

Hello Simon, I also use Allen Key type M2.5 Button Head bolts, then fill the small 'key' with Milliput. Once hardened and after spray painting they are a good replacement for rivets. My hand riveting leaves a lot to be desired, so this for myself is the best solution....Mick

Ok that would work I guess, but all the same still would like to know the correct way to install the 2.5 rivets. Did you actually attempt to try and install them, or just went direct to the button heads?

Hello Simon, I did try to install the rivets however, I damaged the surrounding metal with the hammer. There are rivet tools available, perhaps other Forum members can advise you, anyway give the Button Heads a try, not perfect but acceptable, for myself...Mick

the mudgaurd hinges are held on with countersunk slot head screw, 10 ba thread 1/4 inch long, available from ekp supplies, cut to size after fitting, you will also need 10 ba steel hex nuts for the bolts to go into on the underside of the mudgaurds, £20 approx cost, 50 nuts, 50 screws required that will do both front and back mudgaurds, makes more of a scale finish, google ekp supplies for details, hope this helps, simon manning.

As Simon says, Tiger 131 hinges used screws and nuts to secure. In my mudguards I use 10ba from EKP.

EKP also do a range of button head screws from 0 to 10ba which have a plain head ie no slots. Might be good as a substitute for rivets where you might need to dismantle components in the future but still retaining that rivet look.

But 131's hinges are held with screws not rivets. If you look underneath you see the nuts. No need for rivets on the hinges

No problem Peter. They are a great solution. I used them in various sizes on my panzer IV. Just for information.
