The Gun, a question.

I have been wondering about Armorteks gun. What does it really sound like?
It was billed as an artillery type of noise, but the two videos that I have seen it was rather a soft pop. I,m wondering was it the recording? Or are those 12 ga blanks like .22 shorts? Just not enough powder to give it the real thunder of a gun.

I was wondering the same thing. I guess you could always modify it to fire a 3 1/2 inch, home-reloaded 12 gauge cartridge for a real BOOM factor.

I've seen a few fired at shows and although it's certainly more impressive than a "soft pop",
it is more of a BANG than a kerBOOM

Very nice to have you back. Stefan's definitely sounds good. Like Roland, many of the videos I have seen (although very cool, regardless) have more of a "CRACK" sound to them.

I'm not an expert, and maybe someone on the forum knows an acoustical engineer to ask, but my experience it seems the caliber and velocity have much to do with whether or not one hears a pop, bang, or boom. So my sense it the larger the caliber then the more is likely to hear a boom than a pop for example.

However, it might be possible to coordinate some recorded audio of a gun firing (with a deep boom) and synchronize that with the firing of the gun. This would complement the bang and smoke of the blank firing with deeper sounds and maybe some reverb too. This would probably work best with a dedicated sound card and speaker, and with some relay tied to the gun firing control.

I have several 88-ish sounding digitized sound files - any takers on trying this on?

I've heard the blank firer a few times and all I can say is that it does give a fair bang and is much better than the 9mm blank. There is also a fair bit of smoke which is good. I've been clay shooting for many years and fired all sorts of guns from black powder to the 12g magnums and you don't get the "ker-boom" sound. I think that electronic with some form of heavy amplification may be the way to go

I belive the Ker-Boom sound, or crack, is caused by the projectile breaking the sound barrier as it leaves the barrel.

I have always thought that the armortek blank firer was very good , and with the large amount of smoke as well does look the part.
The new type blank firer allows the use of bigger cartridges, these i have not yet exsperienced, but am told its one hell of a bang.
I know that some tanks are useing single use pyros , but these dont seem to be as good as the armortek blank firer.
