Lord, I had no idea that German law demanded removal or replacement of armour plate so that civilians ie the general public could then legally own a military vehicle, I guess if someone went nuts and used the vehicle inappropriately it would be easer for the authorities to disable that vehicle

Bit different to the UK. Here you'll need a class H license for tracked vehicles and you're limited to 20 mph and there are some special requirements to make it road legal. Also all tracked vehicles over 5 tons must be fitted with rubber pads on the tracks.and all guns deactivated but yes you can drive your own tank on the road.

Herr F, obtained the Panther in the 1970’s it was one of the REME built MNH Panther when he bought the Panther the gun had been cut in two close to the Mantle this we know for a fact what we don’t know was during the renovation the Panther ended up with a full length gun, was this gun welded back together or was it simply replaced with a different gun, is the guns breach still in place, has the gun been officially de-commissioned with the relevant paperwork these are unknown questions.
This man was investigated regarding possible association to the then owner of a haul of looted Nazi art that was found in Munich about 2 years ago he may not have been implicated in this but it is clear that he does own a number of Nazi artefacts himself.
Currently in German Museums there are x3 Panther A and x1 Panther G there are also x2 Jagdpanther and x1 Bergpanther in private ownership there is a Tiger I currently on display at Munster there is also another x2 Tiger coming from the same source who has also built a Panther A and is currently building a Panther D, there is also at least x1 Bergpanther in private ownership plus numerous other AFV’s then there is a number of aeroplanes in private ownership such as BF109 to say ownership of such vehicles in Germany is not possible simply isn’t true it is possible with the relevant paperwork.
